Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Free for PS4 With Pre-Order of Sony Xperia XZ3

Sony has a tie-up with Activision to help push sales of the upcoming Sony Xperia XZ3 mobile phone in Europe. Pre-ordering the phone gives you a digital code for Call of Duty Black Ops 4 free of cost for the PlayStation 4.

As seen on the Sony Mobile blog post, this seems to be only available to residents of the UK and Ireland and lasts till 5th October 2018 which is the day the phone releases. You cannot just pre-order the phone and then cancel it to get the code, there is a verification process that takes place. “After receiving your new Xperia XZ3 enter the requested details in the form below. You will need your new Xperia XZ3, the box with the EAN number and the device’s IMEI code to complete this step.”

Redemption for the digital download will start on Friday 28th September. This seems specific to those countries for now and is an interesting move on Sony’s part to get people to pre-order the phone as it gives them an extra incentive in the form of a $60 AAA video game for free.

YouTube Gaming is Closing

Youtube is one of the biggest platforms for video sharing and hosts so many different content creators from all over the world, some of whom’s sole source of income is Youtube. While Twitch started to dominate the Gaming Live Streaming market, Youtube decided to launch the Youtube Gaming app and site in an attempt to get creators to use that as well.

Youtube Gaming’s dedicated app is being shut down and you won’t be asked over and over again if you want to watch a live stream on the Youtube Gaming webpage or app. This is mainly due to the fact that it didn’t get the reach that Youtube had hoped for and have decided to make a change to it. Instead of completely removing it, they’re adding it to the main Youtube site where it will have a dedicated home.

The new gaming home of Youtube will have rows of recommended videos and streams, popular live streams and content from your subscriptions. On top of that, you will have the option to choose specific games as your favourite so that the Youtube Algorithm will recommend those games more. It will also have a section titled “On The Rise” which will feature trending content creators. They plan to retire the Youtube Gaming App in March 2019 and the new page can be seen at youtube.com/gaming.

You can read all about this change here on the youtube blogpost.

Xbox Hits Back At The PlayStation Classic, And It’s Way Better

Earlier today Sony announced the PlayStation Classic, a new miniaturized version of the classic console which come pre-loaded with 20 classic titles, including fan-favorites such as Final Fantasy VIIJumping FlashRidge Racer Type 4Tekken 3, and Wild Arms. It also costs $100 and will release in December. While this is definitely a great way to take advantage of some good old nostalgia, the Xbox has a way better answer – Backwards Compatibility.

You can play over 500+ classic titles on your Xbox One today, and if you already own the game, you don’t need to pay a dime extra. Plus some of those games are Xbox One X Enhanced, meaning they look and run significantly better than they did back in the day.

Xbox has been strongly progressive over the last few years in the way they offer their customers greater flexibility, and backwards compatibility is a massive deal. I personally have enjoyed gaming on the PlayStation over the last few years, but am slowly moving on to the Xbox for everything third party. I would like to be able to play my games when I move on to the next gen, whenever that comes, and the Xbox already has a strong solution in place for it. Plus, their stance on Cross-play is way more savory than Sony’s.

Release dates announced for Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales and GWENT: The Witcher Card Game

Throughout the adventure, players will explore new and never-before-seen parts of The Witcher world, embark on thought-provoking quests featuring rich, multidimensional characters. All while gathering resources to expand their army and engaging in epic story battles powered by the skill-based battle system known from GWENT: The Witcher Card Game.

Following the release of Homecoming — the biggest update in the game’s history — GWENT: The Witcher Card Game is coming out of beta and launching on PC on October 23rd via GOG.com, and December 4th on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Announced back in April, Homecoming introduces significant changes to GWENT: The Witcher Card Game, fleshing out elements which made the original Gwent from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt a community favorite. The update also incorporates gamer feedback developers have been receiving throughout the game’s Public Beta.

Among others, Homecoming includes a complete rework of the game’s board into a fully three-dimensional battlefield featuring two distinct rows, a redesign of the game’s visuals now in sync with the dark and gritty feel of the world of The Witcher, a new deck building experience, as well as new card mechanics.

Japan-based software developer tri-Ace today announced that it has remastered its classic tactical gunplay role-playing game Resonance of Fate in 4K HD as a digital-only release on PlayStation 4 and, for the first time, on PC. The steampunk aesthetic, fateful story, soaring symphonic soundtrack, and intense gun combat for which the game is known now burst to life and play out in incredibly high resolution. Set in the distant future when humankind nears extinction and is ruled by the ‘Basel’ perpetual motion machine – a massive environmental conservation device of man’s own making run amuck; Resonance of Fate weaves a tale of guns and emotional bonds during this end of days. The game’s three protagonists – Zephyr, Vashyron, and Leanne, work as mercenaries and, through their missions uncover the truth behind the ruling Cardinals and Basel.

Originally released in early 2010 on the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms (and known as End of Eternity in Japan), Resonance of Fate received accolades for its ‘tri-attack’ battle system – a mix of real-time and turn-based controls; the focus on gun combat and gun customization; and its over-the-top cinematic hero actions of the main characters. Critics praised the gameplay and unique combat system that combines strategy with aerial gun battles and fast-paced thrills.

Capcom Terminates Development Projects At Dead Rising Studio Capcom Vancouver

Notice Regarding Recording of Losses from the Termination of Development Projects

Capcom announces that it expects to record losses from the termination of development projects in its consolidated financial results for the six months of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2019 (April 1, 2018 – September 30, 2018). Details are as follows:

1. Details of losses from the termination of development projects

Capcom Game Studio Vancouver., a consolidated subsidiary of Capcom, primarily carries out development of home video game software for markets outside of Japan; however, Capcom is currently reviewing the allocation of its development resources that support the production of world-class content.

In consideration of this process, as a result of reviewing titles in development at Capcom Game Studio Vancouver, Inc., Capcom now expects to record losses from the termination of development projects of approximately 4.5 billion yen under cost of sales in its consolidated financial results for the six months of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2019.

2. Outlook

Regarding Capcom’s full-year business forecast, due to factors including the continued robust performance of the PC version of Monster Hunter: World exceeding the company’s expectations since its release on the Steam platform in August, following the blockbuster performance of the title after its initial release in January of this year, the forecast for Capcom’s consolidated business results remains the same as what was projected at the financial results announcement on May 8, 2018.

Further, there are no changes to the amounts of the interim dividend or year-end dividend that were announced on the same day.
