PUBG Xbox One Fully Released;Update v1.0 Out Now

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, commonly known as PUBG was announced for the Xbox One back at E3 2017. Following that it was released in December 2017 as part of the Xbox Game Preview program which is essentially Early Access and not the full release. After 9 months of being in Xbox Game Preview, it is finally out of it with the launch of the v1.0 Update.

The new PUBG 1.0 Update was showcased at Gamescom 2018 and is finally out now with a download size of 13.54 GB. The game now features achievements which were previously absent, the Sanhok map, War Mode, the PUBG Event Pass and now also has microtransactions enabled in the form of in-game currency known as G-Coin which can be used to purchase cosmetic items. The game has also received performance updates and bug fixes in the new version as seen below.

  • Optimized loading high resolution textures on Xbox One OG.
  • Optimized level streaming on Xbox One X

  • Fixed an issue where some items weren’t able to be picked up.
  • Fixed an issue where having more than one controller connected would:
  • Lower the sensitivity after ADS
  • Disallow driving vehicles
  • Fixed an issue where frame would drop because of effects from destroyed vehicles/boats.
  • Fixed an issue where the screen would be darkened in HDR on some monitors.
  • Fixed an issue where the character would seem like it’s moving faster after certain steps near stair handrails.
  • Fixed an issue where player was unable to navigate shotgun through attachments on S1897, S686.

The full patch notes can be read on the PUBG Forums.

Now that PUBG is officially out now, we can expect it to come to the PlayStation 4. It has dominated the PC gaming scene, the mobile gaming scene and with the full release of Xbox, it might take over the Xbox landscape as well. All that is left is the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch. It would be quite a surprise to see it come to the Switch, especially if they manage to keep it on par with the Xbox version but this is just speculation and only time will tell how PUBG grows from here.

2K Believes Microtransactions are an Unfortunate Reality of Modern Gaming

Earlier this week 2K was in the headlines because of a controversial plea to fans asking to them to let their local government know that they want Loot Boxes. They’re back in the headlines again because of statements made in a recent interview.

In an interview with TrustedReviews, NBA 2K19’s Senior Producer Rob Jones said:

“VC is an unfortunate reality of modern gaming.”

VC is the in-game currency in NBA 2K series which players had issues with since they felt the game was too grindy last year, which hindered progression mainly due to VC. They felt that they were being pushed by the game to use real money to purchase VC because the grind felt too long.

“Every game, at some point, in some way has currency and they’re trying to get additional revenue from each player that plays the game. You know, the question has to be when does it feel like it’s a straight money grab versus when does it feel like it’s value-added, right? We know nowadays that most people don’t have the patience to work their way to the top. They just wanna be there right away.”

Jones wanted to make sure that players understood that the inclusion of VC is not a cash grab but a way of getting to the top if you don’t want to spend the time grinding. It is a way of adding value which can be bought by players. He goes on to state that if players want to purchase items that require a bit of grinding or are just outside of their reach, it is “A choice, not a force”.

After DLCs became an industry standard and a way for devs to release half-finished games, Microtransactions have also become mainstream much to the dismay of many gamers. While they feel that games should not be “Pay-2-Win”, they don’t mind the inclusion of buying in-game items if there’s a viable way of getting it without buying it for real money and without it being incredibly frustrating.

You can read more about 2K and their loot box requests here.

Battlefield V Firestorm: The Battle Royale Mode

Battlefield V’s new trailer ‘This is Battlefield’ gives a lot of insight to the various modes available in the game ranging from Singleplayer to the various multiplayer game modes and also showcases new mechanics that have been added to the game.

The Battle Royale mode was first announced at E3 2018 and then the Gamescom trailer teased the Battle Royale mode. In the new trailer, the Battle Royale mode has been confirmed to be named Firestorm due to the fact that there’s a Firestorm closing in on the players instead of a force field. Firestorm features the biggest Battlefield map and will be playable in Squads of 4 for a total of 16 teams which means 64 players fighting head to head to be the last team surviving.

They’ve described the gigantic Firestorm map as “A sandbox filled with destructible buildings, weaponry, and vehicles”. While we were not shown new footage for Firestorm, we did get a lot of new information which is always welcome.
