ESRB Rates Sunset Overdrive For PC

The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has rated the Insomniac Games-developed open-world action adventure game Sunset Overdrive for PC.

The new rating follows a PC rating from the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea back in May.

Here is the ESRB’s description of the game:

This is a third-person shooter in which players assume the role of a young survivor battling through a mutant apocalypse. As players traverse the open-world of Sunset City, they use assault rifles and fantastical weapons (e.g., grenade launchers that shoot teddy-bear bombs, guns that shoot fireworks) to kill mutant creatures, robots, and occasional human enemies. Combat is highlighted by frequent explosions, screams of pain, and gunfire. Some explosives cause enemies to be dismembered, leaving limbs around the environment; one cutscene briefly depicts a character’s head cut off by a mutant. During the course of the game, characters and environmental elements reference sexual behavior or humor (e.g., “Oh, such a bold statement! It says, ‘I am a prostitute!’” and “How hard was it to make a porn flip book?” ); a radio ad contains a running joke about a sex burger (e.g., “It’s so good you won’t be able to contain your urges to rub it all over your Sex…Burger”). The dialogue contains a handful of drug references (e.g., “You guys have been eating weed” and “Oh, when I get back with your drugs, we’ll discuss my offense at your assumption that I would know where to find drugs”). The words “f**k” and “sh*t” also appear in dialogue.

Sunset Overdrive launched for Xbox One in October 2014. A PC version has yet to be announced.

Phoenix Point Official Trailer

XCOM creator’s new strategy game due out in June 2019.

Phoenix Point, the new strategy game from the creator of the original XCOM series, is coming to Xbox One alongside its PC release in June 2019, developer Snapshot Games announced.

The studio said that Microsoft provided the resources needed to develop an Xbox One version, which will be on Xbox Game Pass when it launches.

A PlayStation 4 version is not currently planned, but the developer has clarified that it does not have “any form of console exclusive deal with Microsoft or anyone else.”

Here is an overview of the game, via its official website:

About

Phoenix Point is the new strategy game from the creator of the original X-COM series. It features turn based tactics and world based strategy in a fight against a terrifying, alien menace.

Key Features

  • A Mutating Alien Threat – The Pandoravirus can mutate living forms, and it can incorporate DNA from multiple species and clone them rapidly. You will face an alien threat that mutates and evolves new forms in response to your tactics. Our procedural generation system for the aliens can generate a huge variety of challenges and surprises for you on the battlefield.
  • Turn-Based, Squad-Based Battles – Each mission will require you to deploy a squad of four or more soldiers, sometimes accompanied by aerial or ground based drones. Battles are turn based, with overwatch and return fire providing a great level of interaction. Soldiers have a willpower stat as well as endurance. Will points are used to spend on special abilities and strenuous physical or mental exertion.
  • The Geoscape is Reborn – The Geoscape gives you a strategic view of the world situation. From here you plan all your operations, construction, research and missions. Exploration is an important initial objective. You must attempt to make contact with havens, discover scavenging sites and locate special Phoenix Project sites. You can monitor the thick microbial mist rolling in from the sea which represents an increased threat of alien activity.
  • Intricate and Challenging Boss Battles – You will also face intense boss fights against large monsters. Monsters may have multiple abilities for attack, defense, generating mist and spawning larvae. You will need to use body-part targeting to progressively disable their abilities.
  • Deep and Extensive Soldier Development Customization – Your soldiers gain experience through battles and training in specialized facilities. There are extensive skill trees for each class of soldier. Skill knowledge is developed from research and interaction with other human factions through trading, alliances or conflict.
  • A Vast Array of Weapons and Equipment – There is a large variety of weapons and equipment based on various technologies – some old, some new, and some quite alien. Each human faction has their own tech which you can acquire through trade or conflict. Through your own research you will be able to combine and develop unique technologies.
  • Procedural, Destructible Environments – The many different battle locations include havens with faction specific facilities and architecture, and scavenging sites, such as abandoned military bases and factories. Our mission system generates battle layouts based on the facilities and structures located at havens, phoenix bases and alien bases. Everything is potentially destructible.
  • Diverse and Dynamic Missions – There are a great many types of missions and objectives, often based on interactions with the other human factions. Havens will frequently request assistance fighting off alien incursions, but sometimes you will be asked to intervene in a conflict between the human factions. You will get involved in kidnaps, rescues, assassinations, sabotage, infiltration, haven takeovers and base defense missions. You will need to find out what happened to the Phoenix organisation, which involves remote locations and some missions with an archaeological aspect. Then there are the assaults on alien bases and the giant alien land walkers.

Red Dead Redemption 2 – Five Details You Missed

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a huge game with so much to do that it can seem overwhelming and you might even miss out on some of the little things because of how grandiose and spectacular everything is. Here are five details in Red Dead Redemption 2 that you may have missed.

Bullet Hole in Boats

Boats in the game are quite amazing. While in other games shooting a boat will damage and cause it to sink, in RDR 2 proper bullet holes form when you shoot the boat. If the part that you’ve shot is in contact with the water, you will even see water rush into the boat from the holes before it capsizes.

Catch Physics

The physics in the game are impressive but there’s a neat little detail tied with it.  If you run into tables or barrels with items on it, they might get knocked off based on how you hit it. If you do this while in the first-person mode and add an item that is falling off the table into your inventory, you will witness Arthur catch the item midair and keep it in his pocket.

Damaged NPCs

If you decide to rob a store and decide to beat up the clerk a tad bit before you get what you want, you will notice that the next time you return the clerk will have visible wounds and if you beat them up severely, they might even have bandages on their face.

Clock Sync

If you pay attention to your environment you will notice that a lot of places have clocks. These clocks are accurate to the in-game time and you can even see the hands move if you stand and watch the time pass you by.

Horse Damage

Your Horses can die if you don’t take care of them. However, if your horse were to catch on fire and burn but survive, they’d be scarred. Forever. Your horse will now be completed charred without any fur. Poor horsie though but, it does look a little badass.

Destiny 3 Leaks Reveal New Locations, More Focus On Hardcore Gameplay

Destiny 2 is still getting a lot of attention from Bungie however that doesn’t mean they haven’t thought about Destiny 3 and what all changes it will entail. Thanks to leaks from a very reliable leaker in the scene, we might know what Destiny 3 will be like.

Reddit user AnonTheNine is a well-known and reliable leaker in the Destiny community especially after he said that the Thunderlord machine gun would make a return soon, which did happen. According to them, the devs have just started working on Destiny 3 with Chris Barrett as the Game Director this time around instead of Luke Smith who still has a big role according to them. They’ve also stated that Destiny 3 is going to be much more RPG focused and hardcore, even going on to say that “a lot of Guardians who play 2 hours per week will abandon the game. They are going balls out with the RPG stuff.” Bungie seems to be doubling down on the RPG aspect and the more hardcore experience for players.

Besides that, there’s the leaked Europa patrol zone. Europa is a one of Saturn’s moon and was first supposed to be in Destiny 1 but was later scrapped and its original concept art is still there. There’s also going to be PvPvE patrol zones where you are fighting for territory. Another surprising and interesting change is that Guardians will now be able to use The Darkness. It will be very interesting to see how they’ll tie that into the story.
