Dell Leaked Roadmap Shows Dual Screen XPS Laptop

In addition to the Intel roadmap for its upcoming processors, there has been another leak, this time for Dell’s range of XPS laptops.

According to the roadmap (via Tweakers), Dell is working on several XPS models, including 13-inch, 15-inch, 17-inch and even a dual screen version, which is codenamed “Maximus”.

The Dell XPS 13 itself is expected to have three variants, codenamed “Italia”, “Modena” and “Centenario”. The Italia, aka XPS 13 7390 will use Intel’s 14nm Comet Lake U CPUs while the Modena and Centenario will be based on the 10nm Ice Lake U chips. These are expected to be made available starting late 2019.

As for the 15-inch XPS laptops (codenamed “Fiorano”), they will make use of the Comet Lake H chips, coupled with NVIDIA’s GTX 1660. It is expected to come out sometime in 2020.

The Dell XPS 17, codenamed “Stradale” is expected around mid 2020 and will be powered by Intel Comet Lake H CPUs and GTX 1660 Ti MaxQ graphics. This one is particularly interesting as it’s been about 3 years since Dell released a 17-inch model for the XPS.

The most interesting thing, however, is the dual screen XPS, codenamed “Maximus”, which is slated for a late 2020 release in the roadmap. Apart from that, there are no more details regarding this device. Keep in mind, though, this roadmap is about a year old, so there may be changes regarding the line up and release schedule, especially with the 10nm Ice Lake chips getting delayed. Nevertheless, stay tuned for further updates!

Intel 10th Gen Processors for Laptops Leaked, Might Be Out This Year

We’ve seen our fair share of leaks regarding Intel hardware in recent times, and it doesn’t seem like they’re going to stop anytime soon. Thanks to reliable leakers like Momomo_us and Komachi, we now have our eyes on Intel’s 10th gen CPU line up for notebooks.

The leak shows 14nm Comet Lake U and 10nm Ice Lake U processors, which may be announced later in the second half of this year. As expected, there will be multiple SKUs in all Core i7, Core i5 and Core i3 families, the rumoured names for which you can check out below:

Rumored Intel 10th Gen Ice Lake-U Processors:

  • Core i7-1065G7
  • Core i5-1035G7
  • Core i5-1035G4
  • Core i5-1035G1
  • Core i5-1034G1
  • Core i3-1005G1

The Core i7-1065G7 is expected to be the flagship, with 4 cores, a base clock of 1.3 GHz and boost clock speed of 3.5 GHz on all cores. It is said to have a TDP of 15W and will be one of the first chips to use Intel’s Gen 11 graphics.

Rumored Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake-U Processors:

  • Core i7-10710U
  • Core i7-10510U
  • Core i5-10210U
  • Core i3-10110U

The top model in the 14nm Comet Lake-U CPUs is supposed to be the Core i7-10710U with 6 cores. What gives credibility to these names is an entry spotted by Twitter user TUM_APISAK that lists specs similar to the ones pointed out by the leaks, suggesting that these chips do exist and may surface soon.

Considering intel just announced the 9th gen processor line-up for laptops, it’ll be really interesting to see how and when they plan to release the 10th gen CPUs, and how the upcoming parts will fit into their plans for the existing range of products. In any case, with a bulk of new announcements expected in the next few months, things are bound to get exciting for the gaming community.

Anthem’s Playerbase Is Dropping, Making It Hard To Team Up

Anthem has been off to a rocky start from day one, and it has only gotten worse from there on out. Recently, Bioware announced that they are delaying all of the big planned content indefinitely until all the issues have been fixed.

But this now creates another problem – with no new exciting content to look forward to, players have no reason to stick around. The issue is getting so bad, that it is now hard to find other players to team up with and play. This makes it even worse if you are playing on higher difficulties, since you’ll often be alone for the mission, making things way harder and even less fun.

One can only hope that EA allows Bioware to keep working on Anthem and bring it up to the standards expected of modern Games as a Service.

So much for the “Bob Dylan of Video Games”.

Research Firm JPR Predicts 20 Million Players Will Migrate From PC To Console By 2022

Jon Peddie Research (JPR), the market research firm for the computer graphics industry has issued its latest study for PC, TV, and Cloud Gaming Hardware.  JPR forecasts that 20 million PC Gamers could defect to TV Gaming platforms in the 2018 – 2022 timeframe, loosely correlated with the decline of the PC platform globally. The majority will come from the low-end (under $1000 full build cost), but because of improvements in TV displays and console semiconductors, as well as console exclusive titles, the ranks of mid-range and high-end PC gamer populations are also affected.

Jon Peddie, President of JPR said, “The PC market continues to decline because the innovation that took place in the past providing speed ups and clever new things has all but stopped, plus the product introduction times are stretching out to four years. This is not a panic situation and the GPU market still generates incredible volume. However, there are forces at work that we predict will drive some of this business toward TV displays and associated gaming services.”

Ted Pollak, Senior Analyst, Gaming Industry said, “We are observing a higher percentage of Low/Mid-Range PC products sold because of the consumer’s intent to use with games. This, unfortunately, does not generate more volume but does guide research and design as well as marketing investments for hardware providers and foreshadows the ultimate use model of the PC, a desktop ergonomic gaming/computing environment that embraces user choice and customization. Gaming services used with TV displays, whether local or cloud-based, will absorb PC defectors and likely flourish with new entrants. In the next five years, we will see potential customers with access to TV gaming swell by hundreds of millions.”

How does the world look five years from now? Very different. Moore’s Law is no longer helping. No longer can the processor builders count on shrinking transistors every 24 months and either doubling performance or reducing costs. Product cycles will stretch to four years or more. The high-margin high-end segment will feel the pain the most.

The JPR TV and Cloud Gaming report covers gaming technologies designed to play on televisions. Evaluated within the report are Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Amazon Fire TV, Nvidia Shield, Apple TV, Cable and Satellite boxes, Cloud Gaming and more. The analysis contains a recent sales history and three-year forecast for unit sales of Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Android Consoles, Apple TV and other devices.

Intel CPU Shortage To Continue Till Q3 2019

In a recent earnings conference call, Intel admitted that overcoming the CPU shortage will take until Q3 2019, despite an investment of $1.5 billion in an effort to increase the production capacity. The shortage has plagued the entire PC market since the second half of last year.

The 10nm chips are also rumoured to be revealed later this year, but no concrete information is available regarding the exact release schedule. Here’s what Intel CEO said in the call according to the transcript:

“Specific areas where we need to improve execution include meeting customer demand and delivering on our 10-nanometer lineup of products, and we are making progress. Our supply constraints have had a disruptive impact on our customers and ecosystem. We’ve committed never again to be a constraint on our customers’ growth. We’ve increased capacity to improve our position in the second half, although product mix will continue to be a challenge in the third quarter as our teams align available supply with customer demand.

As I shared earlier, our confidence in 10-nanometer is also improving. In addition to the manufacturing velocity improvement I described earlier, we expect to qualify our first volume 10-nanometer product, Icelake, this quarter and are increasing our 10-nanometer volume goals for the year. I’ll shift now to our full year outlook. Going forward, George will deliver our forecast. But given this is his third week with us, I’ll share my thoughts on our full year reset and he’ll review our first quarter results and second quarter guide.”

The interesting thing to note, is that according to Intel’s roadmap, the SKUs for CPUs will continue using the 14nm process well until the end of 2020, even 2021. Maybe even after that, which really begs the question whether Intel plans to announced the 10nm chips any time soon.

Another noteworthy factor is that due to the shortage of CPUs, Intel has been jacking up the prices of currently available processors, while AMD prices have remained more or less stable. This has led to AMD gaining a considerable share in the CPU market, and if the trend continues, it could very well spell trouble for the blue team.
