How to optimize your Android phone for gaming

Mobile gaming is constantly reaching new horizons and developers are rolling out new games day after day with better graphics and creative gameplay which will soon rival other platforms out there. An average user can very rarely make the most out of these features due to a lack of knowledge about the various ways you can optimize your Android device to get the most out of those gaming sessions.

Whether you own a low-end smartphone or the best one that money can buy, there are always some settings you can play around with and tweak to get the best possible performance and visual performance from your video games.

So let’s get started:-

  1. Enable Developer Options – The first thing you have to do before you begin to tweak around the settings in your phone is to enable developer options on your Android phone.

To do this just follow the given instructions:-

  • Go to Settings
  • Scroll down to find the About Phone option and open it
  • Locate Build Number and tap on it multiple times(5-6)
  • Open the newly appeared Developer Options and enable them.

  1. Enable 4x MSAA – For those of you out there who own higher-end devices, enabling this option will make your games look much prettier but it does come at the cost of a marginal reduction in the FPS and battery life.

This will force android to use multi-sample anti-aliasing in OpenGL ES 2.0 apps and games which is akin to force enabling anti-aliasing using you Nvidia Control panel on a PC.

To enable 4x MSAA follow these steps:-

  • Go to Developer Options
  • Look for 4x MSAA
  • Turn it ON and you’re done

  1. Disable or uninstall apps you no longer use – One of the most notorious reasons for an underperforming phone is the presence of a lot of unnecessary apps that use up memory and the CPU in the background. Please ensure that you only have those apps installed that you actually need.

One good way to do this is to go to My Apps on the Play Store and sort the apps by last used and uninstall the ones which you have never used or don’t have use for anymore.

You can also disable apps that eat up a lot of resources while gaming and then enable them again after your gaming session ends.

  1. Use game boosting apps – Now this may sound counterintuitive but it isn’t, there is a wide variety of apps on the Play Store which can automatically monitor your resource usage and optimize your device accordingly so that your games run as smoothly as possible. These apps make temporary changes to the settings on your phone in order to maximize performance.

  1. Tweak your in-game settings – Most of us don’t fiddle around with the in-game settings a whole lot because usually games automatically detect the optimal settings for the device, but if you want better frame rates, you can try decreasing the graphics detail quality. All in all, you should experiment and see which settings work best for you.

Do try out these tips and let us know which one worked for you. Till then, happy gaming!

FIFA 21: Everything we know so far

EA recently announced the release date of the latest installment of the world’s most famous football simulation game series FIFA. Releasing on Friday, 9 October 2020 a bit late than its usual late September slot, the game will be available to play on PC, PS4, XBOX and Switch.

EA have also announced their plans to give players a free upgrade For FIFA 21, as they are partnering with Sony and Microsoft to offer players a Dual Entitlement – meaning that they won’t need to buy FIFA 21 twice to upgrade their copy of the game from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, or Xbox One to Xbox Series X.

New game, new features

Career mode

Concerns over the development of career mode have troubled fans since its launch in FIFA 20. However, EA sports are adding a ‘Quick sim’ option for players to jump in game and change the direction of the season. Active Training System is also a new addition – which will facilitate the creation of group training sessions to work on areas of weakness to train and improve players abilities.

Gameplay additions

Another big addition is the Activity Management system giving players tactical control to balance their morale, sharpness and fitness. This ties into to the Interactive Match Sim which focuses more on management side of playing, allowing players to make more tactical decisions.

Opponents AI is also getting an upgrade which allows them to react better when it comes to attack and defense. Additionally, there will also have the options to sign players as well as options to customize their career mode.

New attacking systems such as Agile Dribbling, Positioning Personality and Creative Runs will be added to get better control of player movements

More to be revealed in August

EA sports in a recent post that they have more to announce about FIFA 21 gameplay, Career Mode, Volta, Pro Clubs and Ultimate Team.

Demo

The demo will be the first chance most get to get a hands-on feel of the game. It should be available on our consoles from Friday, 18 September 2020.

Criticism by fans

Despite being one of the best selling video game in the world some fans are feeling a bit peeved right now. One of the main issues that many players have with the series is that the with only a few gameplay changes and graphical upgrade the new titles have become “glorified re-skins” with new kits and updated squads.

Many fans have even took it upon themselves and decided to boycott the title entirely.

Another issue that has plagued the series is the controversial pay to win mechanics of the Ultimate team. The situation got so bad that EA had to explain to the Belgium government about these gambling mechanics and the so called ‘loot-boxes’.

With the matter even being discussed in UK parliament, EA still to this day hasn’t changed their lootbox policy as it brings them a lot of money and is more than likely to introduce these gambling mechanics to the new title.

PUBG Mobile may not get banned after recent privacy policy changes

Key Highlights

  • Player data will be stored on servers in India
  • Data will be shared with third parties underlined in the privacy policy only where necessary

Recently, PUBG Mobile changed its privacy policy after reports of it being under Indian Government’s radar came to light. The reports mentioned the game in a list of 275 Chinese made apps which were being surveyed by the government.

This comes after a total of 59 Chinese made apps were banned in India. Pakistan too banned the game for a few days but after a meeting with game representatives they decided to reverse that order.

Privacy policy update for Indian users

The main focus of this policy update is that data acquired by Indian users will be stored on servers located in India. Previously the data could be accessed by third parties but after the recent update it can only be processed in India.

With this update Indian users can now rest assured that their data is not being sent overseas or being sold to third parties.

According to the official discord channel of PUBG Mobile, “The update is intended to make the user privacy policy easier to understand and to give more transparency about how we process your personal information.”

PUBG Mobile has stated that they utilise third parties so as to provide the best possible experience which includes cloud services for data backup, support ticketing, and fraud detection as well. For more information head to this link

What personal data is being stored

1- Information you provide to us (either directly or through a third party).

The policy states, “You give us information about you when you register for the Game (your nominated nickname, and information we import from your connected social media account (WeChat, Facebook, QQ, VKontakte, Twitter, Google Play, Game Center or LINE) in order to set up your profile, including your name as it appears on your social media profile, your user ID and your profile picture). You also provide us with information when you set up your profile for the Game (including region location and information you voluntarily elect to provide in order to customise gameplay, such as gender) or your nickname when you log-in as a ‘guest’ in order to use the Game.”

2- Information about you generated as part of the Game (and its in-Game services)

The privacy policy further states, “We automatically collect certain data from you when you use the Game Services, namely your open ID, IP address, device information (such as application version, battery level, WiFi strength, available space, network type, OS version, platform, carrier, country code, series ID, Android ID, MAC and IDFV), registration time, login time, and information regarding your use of the Game Services, such as date and time stamps of actions.”

The future of the PUBG

Even with this update it isn’t clear that whether the game will be banned in the future or not but the developers certainly realize the value of the indian market. The developers can’t ignore the Indian gaming community which is one of their biggest playerbases with over 100 million registered users. Even Tencent will have to change their future policies just to keep ahold of such a goose that lays golden eggs. In case of a ban its immense popularity can also lead to people protesting on the internet as was the case in Pakistan.

Killjoy: New Valorant agent revealed!

Valorant’s newest agent was recently officially revealed following an accidental leak on the official website. The agent is called Killjoy which is ironic, considering how elated and excited we were upon hearing the news. Taking a look at her abilities which include turrets, grenades, and traps which she can spring upon enemies, we can safely say that she packs a lot of punch.

The news didn’t really catch players by surprise as earlier this week, Riot’s website had displayed info and some videos about Killjoy’s abilities. Though the information was quickly removed some data miners did manage to catch the info.

New agents are always exciting because they result in a meta change and make the game more challenging and fun to play. With the turret ability, Killjoy can deploy a turret which scans a 180-degree radius and shoots any enemy it sees. This may prove especially useful in scenarios where one needs to guard multiple angles and doorways.

Killjoy’s abilities include:-

ALARMBOT: A bot that hunts down enemies that get in range. Once the bot reaches the enemy, it explodes, applying Vulnerable.

TURRET: Deploys a turret that fires at enemies in a 180-degree radius.

NANOSWARM: A grenade that deploys a swarm of nanobots that deal damage.

ULTIMATE ABILITY – LOCKDOWN: Deploys a lockdown device that detains all enemies in a certain radius.

The official Killjoy reveal trailer.

Riot Games has said that Killjoy will release along with Act 2 on August 4.

  1. Call of Duty: Mobile – Admit it, you knew this was gonna be here. Ever since Activision published the acclaimed first-person shooter on Android and iOS, it seems that the only way for COD Mobile has been up. Since its launch in October last year, COD Mobile has racked up huge amounts of loyal fans with some even calling it the best battle royale game on Mobile. With a wide variety of operators to choose from, fluid game movement, a satisfying kill mechanism, and beautiful graphics Call of Duty: Mobile has certainly raised the bar for battle royale games.

  1. Garena Free Fire – This PUBG-esque game was actually released before PUBG Mobile and laid the groundwork for battle royale games on mobiles. 1. Rules of Survival – This 300 player battle royal game by NetEase Games has been in beta access since November 2017. Knives Out is a battle royale game developed and published by NetEase Games which is rapidly climbing up the charts in downloads and player base, especially in Asia. in 2018 Knives Out made more money than both Fortnite and PUBG which is largely credited to its intense gameplay and PUBG like feel. This is a game you must check out if you’re a fan of the battle royale genre.

Platforms: Android, iOS, PlayStation 4(Japan only), Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows

Call of Duty Mobile: Days of Summer Event

While players were waiting in anticipation for season 9 to drop, it seems Activision has just added the ‘Days of Summer Event’ as part of The Forge season 8, to the game on July 28. The limited time event allows players to earn cosmetic rewards including the Purifier – H20 skin, a water-based skin for the Purifier Operator Skill that douses your enemies with water like a giant toy spray gun rather than in flames.

Much like the previous updates players would need to complete 12 tasks listed below to unlock these cosmetic rewards.

  • Play 3 Juggernaut Matches
  • Play 10 Juggernaut Matches
  • Select the Highrise map in MP-Featured and Kill 15 Enemies on it
  • Select the Highrise map in MP-Featured and Play 5 MP Matches with Friends on it
  • Kill 30 Enemies in Juggernaut Matches
  • Stay Online for 15 min in total
  • Stay Online for 30 min in total
  • Stay Online for 45 min in total
  • Stay Online for 60 min in total
  • Play 3 Gunfight Matches
  • Send 5 XP cards to Friends
  • Play 5 Kill Confirmed Matches

Though the tasks themselves aren’t that difficult and can be completed in a single session, Activision has released five tips to help players complete these challenges.

Top 5 Tips for Days of Summer

  • I am the Juggernaut- It may be easier to get 30 enemies in Juggernaut matches while being the XS-1 Goliath rather than a regular soldier. Try to get the suit early and dominate your competition… Or take it easy, as you have to also complete 10 matches anyways to knock out two other challenges.
  • Friends in High(rise) Places- Consider tackling the “Kill 15 Enemies” on Highrise challenge while also playing with friends to take out two challenges in (theoretically) one session.
  • Gunfight and Kill Confirmed- These two new-er modes are some serious fun; it’s okay if these challenges are your excuse to play them, because you’ll find out exactly why so many players love them in Mobile!
  • Time Keeps on Slippin- Remember to take healthy breaks while playing – you can easily knock out the “Stay Online” challenges in no-time without needing to pull an all-nighter (or all-dayer).
  • Friends Forever- If your friends don’t already have Call of Duty: Mobile, now is a great time to invite them. That way, you can send them some XP Cards and play some Highrise matches, which takes care of two of those challenges.

Though there isn’t an end date to the event it can be assumed that the event may end by late August. But you might wanna be ready as season 9 is just around the corner.

Players will also have a chance to earn many other rewards including SMRS- Barrier Reef, Frag Grenade- Water Festival, CODM Credits, and more by just playing the game during this event.

What’s in XBOX future

Just recently XBOX had its July showcase which they promised would focus more on the software (games) rather than the hardware (new consoles). Previously, PlayStation also had a similar showcase where they knocked it out of the park by showcasing the graphical prowess of the PS5 and the sheer number of games coming to the new console but that wasn’t the case for XBOX.

During the showcase XBOX unveiled the gameplay footage of Halo: Infinite, their flagship title but fans were left rather disappointed due to its sub-par visuals. People were expecting to see the graphical prowess of the new console on full display but the demo was apparently being run on PC with XBOX Series X equivalent specs.

This all led to people taking to the internet, to post memes and criticism of the reveal leading many to be worried for the future of the console.

XBOX game pass

But there is a silver lining in all of this as XBOX also made sure to make it clear that its Game pass is still the ‘best deal’ in the entire gaming industry.

Previously, XBOX head executive Phil Spencer said that they are focusing more on adding to the XBOX eco system and that includes PC and consoles. This can be seen as more and more XBOX exclusive games are making their way to PC. Add in the future plans to include project Xcloud to XBOX Game pass, the subscription service becomes the best deal in the whole gaming industry. Getting day one access to 100+ games including Halo: Infinite which is good enough to be a launch title is too much of a good deal at such a low price.

XBOX is setting up a new standard here when it comes to serving the audience. Even though they don’t intend to make that much money by offering games from first party studios, this approach seems rather focused on getting more players invested in their XBOX eco system just like Netflix did with their audience.

This all comes in a time when companies around the world are more interested in shoving micro-transactions in games. Just recently, EA was running some tests to see that if they can run TV ads in games.

XBOX has much more to reveal as Phil Spencer has further teased that Microsoft may have backward compatibility details to share in August, which could point to another Xbox showcase.

TEN TIPS AND TRICKS TO IMPROVE AT COD MOBILE

When Call of Duty: Mobile released in October 2019 no one knew that it would go on to become the worldwide phenomenon it is today. Upon release, Call of Duty: Mobile had dived headfirst in a market dominated by the likes of PUBG and Garena’s Free Fire.

The game surpassed all expectations by becoming one of the biggest mobile game launches in history with over 250 Million downloads by June 2020. Bringing an almost console-esque experience in the hands of millions of people, COD Mobile is one of the hottest games right now.

With its battle royale and team deathmatch multiplayer modes coupled with fluid movement and shooting mechanics, it takes time to improve at Call of Duty: Mobile but using the tips listed below, you’ll be owning noobs in no time.

  1. Optimize your in-game settings: If you own a phone which supports Ultra HD graphics but does so at a lower FPS, you should always lower the quality in order to get better frame rendering and higher framerates. A high framerate results in more responsiveness from your device which results in an in-game advantage over players who use higher graphics settings. Try out different control methods, especially the Advanced Mode which enables one to completely customize the HUD(Heads-up display), how to hold your weapon, and adjust the crosshair.

  1. Select your character class correctly: COD Mobile has multiple classes for you to choose from in the Battle Royale mode. These classes are:-

Clown- This class mobilizes zombies that will attack all enemies near you, all the while reducing your vulnerability to them. Useful in late-game scenarios when you may need to detect campers. Abilities include Toy Bomb and Anti-zombie.

Ninja- As the name suggests, this class provides equips you with two advantages: stealth and mobility using the Dead Silence and Grapple Gun abilities respectively.

Defender- Useful when you’re in an open area, Defender has the ability to place a Transform Shield in front of you for cover. The Reinforced ability reduces the damage you take from everything except bullets.

Mechanic- The Mechanic class can call in an EMP Drone that causes interference to hostels around you. The Engineer ability provides augmented sight for vehicles, traps, and equipment.

Smoke Bomber- This is the newest class in COD Mobile and it summons a cloud of smoke on the user targeted area. This slows down the enemies while revealing their location.

Medic- One of the most useful classes in the game, Medic has the ability to put up a medical station that heals the entire team. The healing time is also reduced.

Scout- The sensor dart ability in the Scout class helps reveal enemy positions on the radar. The passive ability is that this class can see fresh enemy footprints.

Trap Master- This class is one of the most versatile classes in-game, you can set up high voltage wire traps that reduce enemy health significantly. The class also increases the skill recharge and movement speed of nearby allies.

Airborne- Airborne class has the ability to catapult your entire team into the air using a device aptly name, ‘Ejection Device’. It’s great for escaping or reaching an Airdrop first. The passive ability which increases your buoyancy helps you glide further.

Poltergeist- Similar to Apex Legends’ Wraith, this class has the ability to become near-invisible in order to escape enemies stealthily. Your movement speed is also increased while being in the stealth state.

Trickster- One of the best classes in the game, Trickster can create holographic imposters of itself, thereby confusing enemies. It also helps detect enemy locations due to increased hearing prowess.

  1. Work on your movement: All good players in the FPS genre have one thing in common and that is impeccable movement. Good aim can only get you so far but knowing how to peek corners when to crouch when to go prone and how to use cover effectively makes or breaks a player. Learn how to pre-fire those corners, predicting the location of the enemy and pre-firing is the easiest way to get a guaranteed kill. Learn how to crouch slide in order to get behind cover effectively and without taking damage.

  1. Pay attention to your ammo: It’s very common for people to find themselves running of ammo, especially when you’re running and gunning(and actually getting the kills). In order to keep your ammo in check learn how to spray and burst fire effectively. Using single shots when necessary helps conserve ammo. Diversifying your weapon choices can help you adjust to the type of ammo that is available in the vicinity.

  1. Try to avoid first contact while playing BR: When you are learning the game, you should try and drop at zones with fewer enemy squads as this helps you loot more effectively. You can build up your arsenal and then take on enemies to give you a higher chance of securing kills.

  1. Chase Airdrops: You should try to chase airdrops but not only to loot but also to kill other enemies who may be coming towards the airdrop. Be careful, this can backfire too if another team is waiting for you there so be vigilant of your surroundings.

  1. Keep moving: Although arguably it’s not always a good idea to be constantly on the move while playing the BR, you should be careful not to wait too long in one area because as the zone shrinks you may have to move and other teams may be waiting to take you out at the edge of the zone. Also, We hate campers.

TL:DR- Git gud and happy gaming!
