AMD’s Navi and Zen could power the next Xbox and PS

Once again, well known hardware leaker, TUM_APISAK has provided the internet valuable information, this time about the upcoming next-gen consoles. In a tweet about a week ago, he mentioned about AMD’s new system-on-a-chip (SoC) which will power the next-gen consoles.  As of now, the new AMD SoC is being referred as ‘Gonzalo’.

The most interesting thing about the this new chip is that it is alleged to combine both Zen and Navi architectures. While Navi is yet to be released, rumours indicate that it could come up anytime as soon as the E3. This new AMD APU is allegedly given codename 2G16002CE8JA2_32/10/10_13E9. In this tweet, APISAK deciphers the codename to indicate the possibilities of the new SoC. As far as the Zen architecture is concerned, will the APU be based on Zen+ or Zen 2, is still pretty much unsure. However, statements from Microsoft indicate that their next gen consoles will feature the latter.

If this leak is true, console gaming may take a quantum leap from current-gen performance.
