Dell recently breathed new life into its portable gaming line-up with the introduction of the G series laptops. Available as the G3 and the G7 variants, these are aimed at providing cost-conscious gamers with the best performance at an affordable price. Today we get to play around with the Dell G3 15 gaming laptop, specifically the i7 variant. Let’s see how it fares, shall we?

Our review unit of the Dell G3 15 packs in the latest Intel Core-i7 8570H processor coupled with NVIDIA’s GTX 1050Ti and 8 gigs of DDR4 RAM. For your storage needs, there’s a primary 128 GB SSD to boot up and a 1 TB HDD for storing all the games. For the display, there’s a not-so-bright IPS panel with full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, but more on that later.
Design and Features
When it comes to looks, the Dell G3 15 is keeps things blue and simple. Being a budget laptop, it doesn’t have that premium feel or build quality that you’d expect from a higher end device, but it does come as a refreshing view to the eyes, going for blue highlights instead of the black and red scheme that we get to see in a lot of gaming laptops. The body mostly dons a grey finish, with a shiny blue Dell logo on the lid and slanting pinstripes under. The lid is held in place by a central hinge, and while it does flex slightly, it’s not a big issue.
It has the standard array of connectivity options, with the left side offering two USB 3.1 ports, one HDMI port, one 3.5 mm audio jack, one Ethernet port and the charging port. On the right side, you can find a USB 2.0 port along with an SD Card reader. It feels a little lacking, with no USB Type-C, and I feel there should have been at least one more USB Type-A port as well.
Opening up the laptop, you see the full size keyboard with a blue backlight, along with a trackpad that features a light blue border. The keys are rather comfortable for both work and play, being big enough and well-spaced. The WASD keys have been highlighted to cater to the gaming crowd and the blue backlight looks quite stylish, not to mention refreshing under low light. The trackpad is pretty standard as well, comfortable enough to work on without causing much trouble, as for most of their gaming requirements you’d prefer to use an external mouse anyway.
Performance and Benchmarks
As the Dell G3 is aimed at the budget laptop market, we don’t expect it to be able to run every game at the highest settings. But the Core i7 and the 1050Ti combo is good enough to take care of most of your gaming needs. Take a look at the benchmarks and see for yourself.
As you can see, the laptop is powerful enough to run games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and PUBG at playable framerates at high settings. Even GTA V ran quite smoothly, almost touching 60 FPS on Very High settings. In addition to these games, we also played Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 open beta and were able to obtain a stable framerate of around 60-65 FPS with balancing our settings between Medium and Low. The CPU performs quite well too, obtaining a score of 1123 and 172 in the Cinebench R15 single core and multicore tests respectively.
The one disappointing thing about the laptop, is the display. While it’s a huge improvement over the older Inspiron 7567, it does feel a little dull. The brightness isn’t the best, and even at the max level it seems low for brightly lit areas. Being an IPS display, the color quality is still quite good and does a decent job of bringing your games to life. Heating-wise the laptop fares quite well, though the fans are a little on the louder side. The max temperature we observed was 76 C during our benchmarks, and while the keys warm up a little, it doesn’t cause any discomfort to the user.
Battery life on the Dell G3 15 is nothing short of impressive. The laptop lasted well over 6 hours of normal usage (including multimedia and web browsing) on full battery, making it great for carrying to work too. Gaming laptops in general aren’t known for long lasting battery life, but the Dell devices have never disappointed on that front.
At the price point of INR 82,090/- (Official website), the Dell G3 15 gaming laptop is a great choice for gamers who want the most out of their device. It might not be the best looking laptop you’ll find, but it gets the job done and doesn’t put a dent in the pocket either. Plus, with the grey and blue color scheme instead of the black and red, it stands out the crowd too.
