Well, now that we’ve seen the best of 2018, how about we take a look on the other side of the spectrum? Here are our picks for the worst games to come out this year, in no particular order, because we can’t be bothered to put these in order.
- Fallout 76 (Or, Failout 76)
Oh, Bethesda. glitchy, buggy, hell-bent on ruining beloved franchises Bethesda. To put it mildly, Fallout 76’s launch has to be one of the worst in the history, and Bethesda’s handling of the entire situation just speaks volumes about how out of touch publishers are with the community. From issues with the game to issues with Collector’s Edition goodies to even more issues with complaint tickets regarding replacement of those goodies, we don’t even know what to say anymore. But hey, at least we still have Skyrim for calculators.
- Metal Gear Survive
Contrary to its name, Metal Gear did not survive. In fact, looking back, I had completely forgotten that Metal Gear Survive had even released in 2018. It was a low-effort mediocre survival game that tried to cash in on the Metal Gear name, and it deserves the failure that it met.
Agony tries to appeal to an audience who find enjoy grotesque violence and nudity just for the sake of it. While I assume that such an audience exists, luckily, it doesn’t seem to have money to spend on games. Weak gameplay and terrible graphics further killed any chance Agony had, and it stands tall among the worst games of 2018.
- Overkill’s The Walking Dead
After seeing the initial trailer I honestly had low expectations from Overkill’s The Walking Dead. Even then, this game manages to disappoint on multiple fronts. The core gameplay loop involves mowing down hordes of mindless enemies, and the shooting itself is incredibly weak. Also, the fact that this is a co-op game with no built-in voice chat goes to show how unpolished the overall experience is.
- Hunt Down The Freeman
While the first Half Life game is a revered classic first person shooter, and Half Life 2 is an absolute masterpiece, Hunt Down the Freeman is a steaming pile to hot garbage that tries to milk the nostalgia of millions of Half Life fans. Worst part is that valve allowed this to be sold on Steam – in exchange for actual money. The story is terrible, the gameplay is worse, and it all looks horrible.
So those we our top picks for the worst games of 2018. Did we miss anything? Well, actually don’t tell us, we really don’t want to play any more bad games.
