AMD Working on an “Nvidia Killer” Graphics Card?

AMD looks to be preparing to take the fight to Nvidia in the high-end market with something they seem to call “The Nvidia- Killer” and with a name like that, there’s no pressure on them to succeed. Right?

This leak comes from RedGamingTech who also leaked the Radeon VII and the release dates for the Ryzen 3000 Series so they seem to have an actual source on the inside. According to them, there are two GPUs that AMD is going to release next year. The Navi 21 and the Navi 23.

The Navi 23 is supposed to be the “Nvidia Killer” but we don’t really know in what way. It could either outperform it in raw performance or it could be something that has better performance vs price. This Navi 23 might also have Hardware Raytracing.

This makes sense we did see leaks that they’re patenting a hybrid Ray Tracing technique that uses both hardware and software, unlike Nvidia’s method which only uses the hardware. The next-generation consoles like the Xbox Scarlett and PS5 will have Ray Tracing and will also use AMD GPUs that use the current rDNA architecture.

The reason we didn’t get these before is because AMD didn’t want to take a risk. They moved to a new manufacturing process of 7nm and also because they were working with a new architecture called rDNA. While both of these changes have improved performance, they also are new technology and they just wanted to play it safe for now. Now that they’re more comfortable with both of those, we can expect them to start bringing out the big cards.

These new Navi GPUs will probably release around April or May next year so not only will they have to compete with the current RTX line-up but also with the GeForce 30 series GPUs and Intel’s Xe GPUs which are also supposed to release next year.

It’s safe to say that next year is going to be an interesting time for the GPU market which will hopefully be very competitive and bring in some good affordable tech.

AMD’s Radeon VII and Vega Cards Reportedly Reach End-of-Life Status

The AMD Vega 10, Vega 56/64 GPUs and the Vega 20, Radeon VII GPUs have supposedly reached end-of-life status. This means that production for them has stopped and whatever units you’ll find online are old ones.

This is surprising news considering the Radeon VII is not even 6 months old at this point. Meanwhile, the Vega 56 and 64 have been on the market for a while but thanks to the cryptocurrency craze were selling for crazy high prices. Thankfully, these prices have now dropped significantly and these two GPUs can be found for really cheap. While there’s no confirmation for this report, AMD did respond to Tom’s Hardware about this by saying, 

We continue to see strong availability of Radeon VII in the channel for both gamers and creators.”

This doesn’t seem to clear up much since the Radeon VII seems out of stock in most places and there’s no information about the Vega 56 or 64. In a way, it makes sense to stop producing the $700 Radeon VII card whose performance is almost matched by the newer and cheaper $400 RX 5700 XT. 

Whatever the case may be, AMD still needs to catch-up in the GPU department because their CPUs are doing really well and have also pushed Intel to be even more competitive than usual. We hope whatever AMD is cooking up next is better than the current RTX Super line-up even if it lacks Ray-Tracing for people who don’t want it. The current RX 5700 got overshadowed by the Ryzen launch as well as Nvidia releasing the RTX Super cards which prompted AMD to drop prices of their GPUs before they even launched.

AMD Ryzen 3000 Series Launched; Indian Prices Revealed

Today is the day as AMD has launched their 7nm 3rd Gen Ryzen CPUs, a family of CPUs that we’ve all been waiting for. Eight new CPUs are available from today onwards, with the Ryzen 3900X being the top most model available as of now. The 16-core Ryzen 3950X will launch later this year in September.

Ryzen 9 3900X

So let’s start this roundup with the AMD’s current champion, the Ryzen 9 3900X a 12c/ 24t CPU with a base clock speed of 3.8Ghz that boosts to 4.6Ghz. This little monster goes up against Intel’s i9-9900K that costs about Rs 40,299. Meanwhile, the 3900X comes in at Rs 35,990 excluding the 18% GST. However, with the GST added to it, this CPU costs 2 grand more than the 9900K and will cost your approx. Rs. 42,468.

Ryzen 7 3800X and 3700X

Below the Ryzen 9 CPU, we have the 8c/16t Ryzen 7 line-up. First up is the Ryzen 7 3800X that comes in at Rs 28,490 excluding GST. Then comes the Ryzen 3700X at Rs 24,990 excluding GST. The final price for this CPU will come to about Rs. 29,488 after taxes. The 3700X goes up against the i7-9700K which costs Rs 31,800 but it is an 8c/8t CPU.

Ryzen 5 3600X

This CPU right here is the budget builder’s dream. The Ryzen 3600X costs just Rs 17,690 which means that after tax it will cost around Rs. 20,874. That’s a very impressive offering considering this 6c/12t CPU goes up against the i5-9600k. With a base clock of 3.8Ghz that boosts to 4.4Ghz, this is a very impressive CPU. Even the regular 3600 looks to be great value as it is just .2Ghz slower than its X counter-part while costing roughly Rs 3000 less.

Ryzen 3 3200G and 3400G


The lower-end of the spectrum and the only Ryzen CPUs that have integrated graphics. The 3400G costs Rs 10,990 before tax and approx Rs. 12,968 after. While the cheapest Ryzen, the 3200G costs Rs 7,190 before tax which means after tax it will come to around Rs. 8,484. 

Radeon RX 5700 and 5700XT

The new Navi GPUs have already seen a price cut even before releasing thanks to Nvidia’s RTX Super lineup of cards. The RX 5700XT costs Rs 30,990 before tax ( which is approx 36,599 after-tax) and locks horns with the RTX 2070. Meanwhile, the RX 5700 costs Rs 26,990 before tax (approx Rs 31,899 after-tax) and goes up against the RTX 2060 and RTX 2060 Super.

The CPU market is a very interesting one now that Intel has cut their prices to make their CPUs very competitive. They’re cheaper than the new Ryzen CPUs in a few cases while also delivering somewhat better performance in games. 

Meanwhile, the GPU line-up might fall short as the RTX cards still seem like better value for money but with the price-drop, AMD has made their RX 5000 cards more competitive and an enticing option should people want to choose Team Red for their GPU.

At E3 2019, AMD announced that they would be offering 3 Months of Xbox Game Pass with the Ryzen 3000 series of CPUs and with the Navi RX 5700 GPUs. This offer is now live and features more than just those products.

Everything You Need to Know Before the Ryzen Launch

The launch of the 3rd Gen Ryzen CPUs along with the RX 5700 cards is almost a week away. But, we’ve already had a lot of leaks, especially for the Ryzen CPUs so let’s take a look at all the leaks and what we can expect from the upcoming CPUs.

The Leaks

Ryzen 3600 CPU Leak

The Ryzen 3600 benchmark leaks come thanks to El Chapuzas who released their benchmarks way before the embargo date. According to their benchmarks in Cinebench R15, the Ryzen 3600 outperforms the 8c/ 16t Ryzen 2700X. It also outperforms the Ryzen 1700X and the i7-9700K in Single and Multi-core tests.

Ryzen 3800X CPU Leak

Ryzen 3800 X SC Score: 5406 | Intel 9900K SC Score: 5211

The Ryzen 3800X which is an 8c/ 16t CPU trades blows and even outperforms the i9-9900K in Geekbench benchmarks. While it beats it in Multicore performance, it is somewhat slower than the i9 in Single-core tests. However, the board used for the 3800X was an X470 motherboard which means it wasn’t performing at 100%.

Ryzen 3950X CPU Leak

The Ryzen 3950X is the first mainstream 16c / 32t CPU that handily beats the i9-9980XE in the Geekbench benchmarks. It outclasses the $2000 i9 in both single and multicore benchmarks while just costing  $750.

Mystery CPU Leak

This CPU which might be an engineering sample seems to be running at an overclocked speed of 5.25Ghz on all cores. Its base frequency is 3.3Ghz so this is an extremely crazy overclock which explains the scores.

And this mystery CPU while not a 3950X because of the different base clock speeds, also seems to destroy the i9-9980XE.

RX 5700XT GPU Leak

The Navi RX 5700XT is also launching alongside the Ryzen CPUs.  And just like the Ryzen CPUs, we have a leak for this as well.

The RX 5700XT performs similar to the RTX 2070 in Time Spy as it scores 8719 in comparison to the 2070’s 8901. Do keep in mind that the Rx 5700XT will probably increase after launch thanks to the release of its drivers. Also, the Time Spy benchmark doesn’t always translate well when it comes to gaming performance so while this is a good showing, we’re yet to see game benchmarks.

Ryzen 3000 16 Core CPU Benchmark Leaked; 5.25Ghz Speed Demon

The Ryzen 3000 series benchmarks continue to hit the internet thanks to various different leaks. Yet again, chip sleuth TUM_APISAK has found a benchmark for a 16c/32t Ryzen 3000 series CPU that seems to be even more powerful than the benchmarks we’ve seen before.

The Mystery Ryzen CPU Scores

This CPU which might be an engineering sample seems to be running at an overclocked speed of 5.25Ghz on all cores. Its base frequency is 3.3Ghz so this is an extremely crazy overclock which explains the scores.

The i9-9980XE Scores

This Mystery CPU outclasses the Intel i9-9980XE and the i9-9900K in both Single-core and Multi-core tests. This is especially surprising considering the higher number of threads on the 9980XE which has 36 threads.

The i9-9900K Scores

These benchmark numbers seem to be higher than the previous leak that we saw. This is probably because of the change from X470 to X570 which allowed them to push the clocks higher and enjoy the faster memory.

Another thing to note is that the i9s are older 14nm CPUs while this mystery CPU is a 7nm chip. This mystery is not the 3950X as this mystery CPU runs at a base of 3.3Ghz whereas the 3950X runs at a base clock of 3.5Ghz.

All these leaks seem to a good showing for the upcoming Zen 2 CPUs and we can’t wait for the official release.

More Ryzen 5 3600 Benchmarks Leaked; Zen 2 Looks Very Promising

The hype train for 3rd Gen Ryzen has left the station and with the release date drawing closer and closer, more and more leaks seem to be popping up. And all these leaks have one thing in common, Ryzen being an absolute beast.

Spanish website El Chapuzas Informático have released their R5 3600 benchmarks and they look very promising and seem to align with most of the leaks we’ve seen.

Single Core Test
Multi-Core Test

From these benchmarks, the 6c/12t Ryzen 3600 is outperforming the 8c/16t R7 2700X and also is very close to the i9-9900K. In the multicore benchmark, we see the R5 3600 outperform the R7 1700X and the i7-9700K.

Here’s another leak that shows the Ryzen 5 3600 score 197 in the single-core Cinebench R15 benchmark which aligns with the scores from El Chapuzas. And in the multi-core benchmark, it seems to go toe-to-toe with the i7-9700K and the i9-9900K at what seems to be same clock speeds.

These are really good showings from AMD if this is anything to go off of, I’m really curious to see how the Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 9 CPUs perform because if the Ryzen 5 CPU is performing so well that too at a price point of around $200, the higher end CPUs might just be absolute beasts that have a chance to dethrone Intel’s high-end CPU market as well.

The launch for the Ryzen’s 7nm lineup is on 7/7 which is just about two weeks away, and closer to the release date we might get more solid info and once the embargo is lifted, we will really get to see how good this 7nm lineup is.

Do note that El Chapuzas has previously leaked benchmarks for Ryzen 2600 and Ryzen 2700X which were not 100%. The scores in some cases were accurate but in some were lower than the actual performance so take their benchmark results with a grain of salt. Their result is a pre-proper BIOS result.

Is the AMD Ryzen 7 3800X Going To Overthrow the i9-9900K?

AMD has a lot to prove with Zen 2 and they might be doing it in a very similar way to the original Ryzen 1st Gen release. A recent Geekbench leak shows that the Ryzen 7 3800X outperforms the i9-9900K.

According to a recent Geekbench score that has surfaced up on the internet, the Ryzen 7 3800X may very well be on its way to dethroning the i9-9900K at a much cheaper price point. The Ryzen 7 3800X has scored 34059 on the multicore test which puts it just ahead of the i9-9900k which scored 34020.

While the 7nm Ryzen CPU beats the i9-9900K in the multicore test, it looks like things haven’t changed for Ryzen when it comes to the single-core performance. The new Ryzen CPU scores 5406 whereas the i9-9900K outperforms it quite easily with a score of 6211.

Do keep in mind the difference in clock speeds though. The Ryzen CPU boosts up to 4.47Ghz whereas the i9-9900K has a single-core boost of 5Ghz+ which explains the gulf in Single Core Performance.

AMD always lacked in the Single-Core performance department and while they’ve seemed to have improved it with the new Zen 2 lineup, they still seem to be playing catch-up with Intel. It will be interesting to see how this translates to gaming performance as most well-optimized games seem to utilize the multiple cores available much better than before.

However, many people choose not to go with AMD because of the Single-Core Performance, especially the gamers who are into the Emulation scene which requires good Single Core performance in most cases. If this CPU can be OC’d beyond 4.47Ghz on aftermarket coolers, it could seriously be well worth the money if you want to get into the AMD ecosystem.

The release date for the 3rd Gen Ryzen CPUs isn’t too far away so we don’t have to wait too long before we can see proper benchmarks for this exciting new lineup.
