Top 10 Best PC Games of 2018 | GamingMonk’s Best of 2018

The PC market has always had games that are both visual treats and retro aesthetics. This year we had some really good games on PC that either showcased the power of the system or to showcase that there’s still some great indie games. Let’s take a look at our top 10 PC games of 2018 that we feel you should play on your PC.

  1. Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Lara Croft is back, and this time she’s brought the apocalypse with her. After accidentally starting the end of the world, Lara now has to track down the notorious Trinity organization to make sure they don’t get their hands on the artifacts that have the power to reshape the world.
  2. Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire

    Deadfire
is the sequel to Obsidian’s critically acclaimed RPG, Pillars of Eternity. It focuses on seafaring and island exploration via a ship. Crews can also be hired to look over them, and assist in ship combat. Class based gameplay returns, with each class having three optional sub-classes with unique skills.
  3. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

Call of Duty has made a triumphant comeback, with boots on the ground multiplayer and Blackout is easily the best Battle Royale mode around right now.

  4. Battlefield V

RTX debacles aside, Battlefield V is a pretty enjoyable Battlefield game. Though it no longer retains the same strategic depth as Battlefield 3 & 4, it is definitely a big step up from Battlefield 1. There are some standout maps, the weapons feels great, and the game is a delight to look at, even without RTX.

  5. Hitman 2

Everyone’s favourite assassin is back with a vengeance. Not to spoil too much, but did you know you can kill people by placing a rake in their path? It’s genius, really. Also, to no one’s surprise, the first elusive target is none other than Sean Bean, so fun times galore.

  6. Return of the Obra Dinn

From the makers of Papers, Please comes another unique, impressive title in the form of a murder mystery. Playing as an insurance agent on an abandoned ship, your job is to piece together the story behind the disappearance of the crew. The visual style of the game is quite novel and refreshing, and so is the story and gameplay.

  7. Into The Breach

    Into The Breach
is an incredible turn-based strategy game, from the team behind FTL: Faster Than Light. The game is set in the far future where humanity fights against an army of giant monsters collectively called the Vek. To combat them, the player controls soldiers that operate giant mechs that can be equipped with a variety of weapons, armor, and other equipment. The game uses a turn-based combat system, allowing the player to coordinate the actions of their team in response to enemy moves and actions that serve to telegraph their attacks.
  8. Dead Cells

For people who like super hard games (alternatively, people who hate themselves), Dead Cells is an absolute must play. To put it simply, the game is a rogue-like metroidvania, with procedurally generated levels and impressive pixel art visuals. And brutal, unforgiving gameplay. Seriously, you’ll die a lot.
  9. Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Kingdom Come is a story driven RPG drenched in painstaking detail, though sometimes to the point of annoyance. It focuses a lot on historical accuracy, set in the medieval times in the kingdom of Bohemia. The visuals are jaw dropping, and you get complete choice over what gameplay style you want to follow. Also, it’s hard. Like, really hard.
  10. Forza Horizon 4

    Forza Horizon 4’s
take on the United Kingdom landscape is a breathtaking one. The open terrain, dynamic weather and the change of seasons all culminate in a memorable experience, making it the best racing game to come out this year.

So those were our picks for the best PC games of 2018. Did we miss anything? Let us know in the comments below.

Top 10 Best Games of 2018 | GamingMonk’s Best of 2018

2018 was nothing but a blockbuster year for video games. The entire year has slapped us in the face with amazing titles, one after the other. Sure, it’s quite hard (not to mention unfair) of us to pick just 10 of those and tell you about it, but you know, someone’s gotta do it. So here are our top 10 games of 2018.

  1. Red Dead Redemption 2

God of War may have won GOTY at TGA 2018, but for us, Rockstar’s telling of Arthur Morgan’s story had a much bigger impact. Whether it’s looks, or story, or characters, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a work of art. It’s a memorable story of loyalty and trust, of murder and betrayal, set against a beautiful but unforgiving environment in the Wild West days. Some gameplay issues notwithstanding, it’s seriously hard to overstate what an amazing job Rockstar has done with this title.
  2. God of War

Just because we feel that Red Dead Redemption 2 should be GOTY, it doesn’t mean we’re going to disregard the game that actually won the award. The reboot is quite amazing, both from a visual and a narrative standpoint. Changing the formula from an angry, young man, Kratos is back as an angry, old father. Taking his son on a journey to scatter his mother’s ashes, the game gives players deep insight into his relationship with his son, Atreus. Moments where Kratos struggles to express his affection, and a terrible secret that may very well change his son’s life forever. It’s polar opposite of what the original God of War games were about, and the direction it’s taking is impressive to say the least.
  3. Marvel’s Spider-Man

What more can we say about the title that is the only game to ever receive the Marvel Stamp of Approval? It’s got everything you’d want from a Spiderman game. Multiple suits? Check. Swinging across New York from the tallest skyscrapers? Check. Webbing guys up in awkward positions? Checkity check. Also, Mary Jane is really cute, so that’s also there.

  6. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

Black Ops 4 breathes fresh new life in the Call of Duty series that was in desperate need of it. It brings back the fast-fluid gameplay, while keeping everything grounded. Plus, Blackout, the new Battle Royale mode is easily the best in the genre right now.
  7. Dragonball FighterZ

Apart being an excellent fighting game, Dragonball FighterZ looks absolutely fantastic. It completely nails the crisp, over-the top action that Dragonball is known for. It’s also easy for beginners to get into, due to the auto-combo feature, but also offers deep systems and a good challenge to those willing to master the game.
  8. Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the last in Lara Croft’s reboot trilogy, and it’s a great finale. While the story is throwaway, the tombs and puzzles are top-notch. It’s incredibly exciting and rewarding to explore the new regions, and there’s always a new challenge around every corner. And to top it off, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is damn good looking game.
  9. A Way Out

A Way Out was the most fun I had playing a game with a friend in 2018. It’s is an exclusively co-op adventure about two strangers coming together under dire circumstances to break out of prison. The narrative is compelling, the moment to moment action moves at an excellent pace, and the co-op gameplay is immensely fun.
  10. Hitman 2

Hitman 2 can be summed up as more Hitman with some refinements. And it still is as much fun as the original reboot, with massive levels, tons of ways to eliminate targets, and leave the level in utter chaos. Killing someone with an ax to the head in the middle of a crowded conference room never gets old.

So those were our picks for the best games of 2018. Did we miss anything? Let us know in the comments below.

Steam Autumn Sale: Best Deals That Will Empty Your Wallet

The Steam Autumn Sale is upon us and with so many good choices, let’s pick out the best deals right now for you to spend all your money on. The games listed below are in no particular order but are great deals on games we really suggest you check out for one reason or another. If you’d like to go to Store page of the game, click the title of the game.

Dead Cells- 20% OFF (Rs 503| $20)

An extremely fun, satisfying and one of the best Metroidvania style games out there. It does rogue-lite so damn well that keeps you coming back for more and with all the updates and dev support, this game really deserves to be played by more people.

Enter The Gungeon- 50% OFF(Rs 239| $7.49)

Another Roguelite title that has immense replayability, a great soundtrack, and so much diversity that this twin-stick shooter is one of the most fun games I’ve played in a long time along with Dead Cells.

Hollow Knight- 34% OFF(Rs 316| $9.89)

Another Metroidvania title but this too is very unique and mysterious. Gorgeous Visuals, an intriguing world filled with various characters and a brutal difficulty curve hooks you onto the game because you always want to know just a little bit more which keeps you coming back for more.

Cities: Skylines- 75% OFF(Rs 182| $7.49)

This city builder is one of the best out there. Period. It will give you over a hundred hours worth of gameplay and more if city building and management is your thing or if you enjoyed SimCity or any of those games really.

Jurassic World Evolution- 60% OFF(Rs 1,428| $21.99)

Now usually I wouldn’t really recommend this game for its normal price but at 60% off, this game does seem worth it. You have to build and run your own Jurassic World. This is first and foremost a theme park sim that’s not too complex that it pushes you away. It’s fun and can be really entertaining so if you’re thinking of trying it, this sale would be a good time to do so.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Collection- 75% OFF(Rs 141| $4.99)

What is this doing here you ask? This is the closest you can get to playing Mario Kart on PC with your friends(Barring Emulation). It’s not just a clone and is extremely fun when played with friends so grab yourself a copy, get your friends to grab one or gift them one since it’s so cheap and enjoy the fun-filled madness of this game.

Sonic Mania- 66% OFF(Rs 226| $6.79)

Another Sonic title but this one is an actual Sonic game. The best one to come out recently and has everything good about the original Sonic games without being a simple cash grab. Brand new levels that take inspiration from the older games and stay true to the roots while still being innovative and fun is part of what makes this title so damn good. It’s also one of the only good Sonic games to come in recent times so, yeah.

The Witcher 3 GOTY- 60% OFF(Rs 400| $19.99)

If you still haven’t played this game, what are you even doing? This game is impressively immersive, well written, filled with detailed and a fantastic audio-visual treat. It’s one of my personal favourite open world games of all time and with the Netflix series coming soon, is a good way to get yourself familiar with the world and character. It’s also got a lot of content in both the main game and DLCs so you’re in for a ride. This should be a must buy if you haven’t played it yet.

Nier: Automata- 50% OFF(Rs 999| $29.99)

I am a tad bit upset at myself for not playing this game sooner. One of 2015’s best games once you play it it’s pretty clear why. The game starts off slow but after 5 hours or so picks up and after that, it was a lot of me going “Wait, what? OMG, that’s so damn cool”. Yes, I used the words cool and rad and this game is exactly that. It’s got great character interaction, an enjoyable combat system, a hauntingly gorgeous world with a soundtrack that adds to it and an intriguing storyline and a dash of that flair that makes a lot of great JRPGs. If you do get this though, get the FAR mod and read the guide for it, otherwise, you won’t be able to play the game properly and an absolute must.

Yakuza 0- 33% OFF(Rs 445| $13.93)

One of my favourite games that I played this year since it finally got a PC release. The Yakuza series of games is one of the most unique sets of games to grace the world. While earlier only available on the PlayStation consoles, this is the first time any Yakuza game has come to PC and it’s quite a good port. This is also the prequel to Yakuza 1/Kiwami and is a great way to get into the series. You play as Kazuma Kiryu, a member of the Yakuza who is trying to clear his name for a murder he didn’t commit. And to do so he sings Karaoke, teaches a lady how to be a good Dominatrix, buys an adult magazine for a child and also beats up a bunch of bad Yakuza men with brutal moves and his various fighting styles.

You also play as Goro Majima, a badass crazy dude who is basically The Joker. Majima also runs a Cabaret Bar which is one of the most fun minigames I’ve played. Do yourself a favour and GET THIS GAME. The boss fights are amazing, the story is fantastic, the voice work is superb and I absolutely love this game and can’t wait for Yakuza Kiwami to come to PC.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider- 50% OFF(Rs 1,749| $29.99)

The game did just recently come out and seeing it go on sale for half its price is good. The game is a conclusion to Lara’s origin story and while it isn’t the best of the series, it’s still a damn good game with beautiful visuals, a lot of actions and a lot of puzzles. It’s a decent game all around and if you want to get it, it’s at its lowest price ever right now so go ahead.

Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey- 33% OFF(Rs 2,009| $40.19)

The game is surprisingly good and not just a rehash of Origins and is worth your playtime if you’re a fan of the series. However, the game itself needs a powerful system to run well, especially on higher settings so keep that in mind before you buy the game. It can get a little bit repetitive and grindy at times so keep that in mind too if you don’t have the time or patience to do side missions to level up your character.

Monster Hunter: World- 34% OFF(Rs 1,979| $39.59)

Another rather recent title that is on sale. The first Monster Hunter to come to PC and while it was a bit rough when it launched, it has gotten better thanks to the devs listening to community feedback. The game also needs a somewhat powerful system to run at a locked 60fps at 1080p and high so be warned. The end game grind can also get tedious but if you’re playing with friends it should be less so.

Far Cry 5- 50% OFF(Rs 1,499| $29.99)

It’s a Far Cry with a couple of changes to the gameplay loop. The territory is split up that have their own bosses, towers have been removed, you can now have a human or an animal like a bear accompany you or even both if you’d like and it’s set in the glorious land of freedom, ‘Murica. It’s a pretty fun game and if you enjoyed previous Far Cry games, you will quite like this one.

Grand Theft Auto V- 34% OFF(Rs 1,3985| $19.79)

We ain’t getting Red Dead Redemption 2 any time soon so GTA V on sale it is. If you haven’t played this on PC or haven’t tried the Online due to certain reasons you should do it now. It’s quite cheap right now and while I hate how much of a grind the game is at times, multiplayer with friends is an absolute blast and with so much freaking content in Online, you really are missing out on a lot of great times.

BONUS Black Ops 4- 20% OFF(Rs 3,393| $47.99)

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is also on sale so if you want to play some Blackout and don’t want to pay full price for it, now is your chance.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2- 50% OFF(Rs 349| $22.49)

This game is an extremely great co-op game that has so absolutely immense replayability and a game that a friend of mine swears by. It takes the Left 4 Dead experience and adds it’s own twist on it in a brilliant way that even comparing the two games is a gross simplification. There are different classes who have different builds and you can change your build based on your preference. It’s absolutely worth playing with a couple of friends. It also has a great soundtrack which I listen to casually.

Dark Souls 3- 75% OFF(Rs 1,074| $ 14.99)

It’s challenging, it’s frustrating, it’s rewarding, it’s filled with hidden lore, it’s Dark Souls. The game is a meme but it also is really good and is absolutely worth playing. I wasn’t a big fan when I heard about the Souls series but I tried it and I want more.

Nioh: Complete Edition- 50% OFF(Rs 549| $24.99)

People tend to liken this game to Dark Souls but the only similarity is that it’s hard and enemies respawn. The combat is top notch, and you get to customize your badass Samurai warrior while fighting weird demons and things from Japanese folklore. It’s a great PC port too and comes with all the DLCs.

Metro Redux Bundle- 75% OFF(Rs 288| $10.18)

The Metro series is really good post-apocalyptic shooters that keep you on your toes and can scare the bejesus out of you. The Redux versions fix a lot of the issues with the games and at this cheap is totally worth getting. Plus, Metro Exodus is coming in a few months so you should really catch up on the series.

That’s some of the deals we spotted on the current Steam Autumn Sale and we’ll keep this post updated when we spot more good deals on great games.
