Inno3D Geforce RTX 3080 Review

One of the biggest claims by Nvidia is that the company’s new flagship RTX 3080 will have twice the performance of RTX 2080. However, true or not this does make me regret my decision of buying a 2080 just a couple of months ago.

It should be noted that in this review we will be keeping the technical jargon to a minimum and think like a consumer while focusing on the practical side of things. The reason for that is because it would be pointless to argue about the specs of the graphic card cause as it stands it is the best option in its current price range.

A huge thanks to Inno3D and Volted PC for providing us with this opportunity. For more details go to this link

IMPROVEMENT OVER THE PREVIOUS GENERATION

The new RTX 3080 not only has better performance than the last generation flagship RTX 2080 Ti but also shows improvements in various other aspects.

Inno3D RTX 3080 features an improved thermal design and 4 fans with the graphic card which keeps the GPU 20 degrees Celsius cooler than the RTX 2080. It should be noted that despite the additional fans it is a bit quieter compared to other graphic cards.

Now, this all might seem like a small change but in reality, would benefit consumers in the long run. However, this still feels a bit lacking as Nvidia’s GPU has a reputation of heating up a bit without a proper cooling system, a problem that persists in this product too.

Another major thing that made a big impression on me was finally having some cool looking RGB options for my graphic card. Inno3D RTX 3080 in particular has a great design and cool looking effects, which looks quite amazing if you have a proper tower PC with a transparent glass window. What’s even better is that you can sync the RGB for your graphic card directly from your motherboard.

PERFORMANCE

Benchmark (Max Settings)RTX 2080RTX 3080 % change

Control (DLSS quality + RT)50fps72fpsup 44%
Shadow of the Tomb Raider (DLSS)65fps94fpsup 44%

Fortnite53fps98fpsup 85%
CS:GO205fps261fpsup 27%
Destiny 263fps80fpsup 27%
Death Stranding66fps103fpsup 56%

The performance offered by this graphic card makes it seem like the old RTX 2000 series were just mere beta versions for the new Ampere based RTX 3000 series. This has definitely lead to many poor RTX 2080 owners like me to drown in our sorrows with only memes to help us through this sad time.

According to our tests, RTX 3080 showed a 30-40% performance increase when compared to RTX 2080 Ti and a 60-70% performance increase when compared to RTX 2080. However, It should be noted that you might even see better performance based on your processor, so make sure that yours does not bottleneck.

Speaking of bottlenecks don’t run and buy a new processor just because you are getting 150 FPS in CSGO instead of 200. Probably wait for a sale or AMD and Intel to announce new processors which according to recent leaks shouldn’t take that long.

In terms of graphics and resolution, the RTX 3080 is built for 4K and possibly even 8K gaming. Previously, even if you had the best PC setup, you could only experience 4K gaming with ray tracing on by sacrificing your FPS considerably. However, with this beast of a graphic card playing games in 4K is much more viable option now.

It is a shame though that there aren’t many games on the market right now which can make use of advanced features such as ray tracing and DLSS.

PRICE

The launch price for this graphic card will cost you around Rs.70,000, give or take a few thousand. Which is not much considering the performance boost you can expect when compared to anything within this price range. However, you can expect some price fluctuations post-launch due to the difficulties involved in shipping the graphic card all over the world in these turbulent times.

Just recently when the card was launched in the US it didn’t take long for stocks to run out and entire websites to crash while taking orders which has become pretty common nowadays. So make sure to grab it while you can or have fun regretting later.

PC BUILDS

When building a gaming PC the general rule of thumb is to buy a graphic card which is around 30 to 40% of your budget. But considering the price of this beast of a graphic card, it seems more likely that you will have to sacrifice on some of the other parts of your PC to fit this in your budget.

Let’s assume you want some reasonable PC build with the new RTX 3080. It should be suffice to say you are going to be spending at least 1 to 1.3 lakh on your PC. So make sure to keep your budget in mind when building a PC with RTX 3080.

VERDICT

Nvidia has clearly knocked it out of the park with their Ampere based RTX 3000 series graphic cards. Now even if AMD announces its competitor the BIG NAVI graphic cards, I doubt they will be as good as the RTX 3080. Even if the RTX 3080 may seem out of your budget do keep an eye out for future releases in the RTX 3070 which is supposed to release this October.

The bottom line is that this card is made for 4K gaming and even if you are not interested in that and only want better performance RTX 3080 is the card for you.

Could Free Fire Get Banned In India?

After the ban of 118 Chinese apps including PUBG Mobile, many are left wondering about the possibility of games like Free Fire also being banned by the government. Players have been looking towards alternative games such as COD Mobile, Free Fire, Fortnite, and many more to fill up that void left by PUBG. One of the major outliers here is definitely Free Fire.

There have been many reports of the game being considered for a ban and having connections to China. While in reality, it is highly unlikely for Free Fire to get banned in India.

WHO ARE THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE GAME

The game is developed by a Vietnamese app development company called 111dots Studio and it is published worldwide by a Singapore-based organization called Garena. The current CEO of Garena Free Fire is Forrest Li who was born in China, however, he is currently a permanent citizen of Singapore.

However, it seems Tencent is one of the major stakeholders of Garena’s parent company is Sea Limited, which has its headquarters in Singapore. Previously, the Chinese conglomerate had a 39.7% share in Free Fire’s parent company while now it only has a 25.6% share in Sea Limited.

CAN FREE FIRE GET BANNED

The main reason for the government to ban an app is if its a Chinese origin app which is in suspicion of leaking user data to the Chinese government. In Free Fire’s case, one of its major stakeholders is a Chinese company such as Tencent who has seen many of its apps being banned.

Despite that, the actual development and publishing of the game are handled by 111dots Studio and Garena respectively both of which are not associated with the Chinese government.

PUBG Developers Looking For Indian Partners?

After the recent ban on PUBG Mobile, the developers have cut ties with Chinese publisher Tencent and according to multiple reports are now looking for an Indian partner to revive the game.

According to a report by Mint, PUBG is working on a new licensing agreement with an Indian gaming firm to pass on the rights to run the PUBG Mobile game in India. PUBG Corporation will now retain the publishing rights for the game, with the Indian partner handling the distribution. However, with no official confirmation, this information should be taken with a grain of salt.

“Ownership is only one of the concerns. But there are several other issues, based on which the ban has been ordered. The concerns are related to data privacy security, activity inside the phone, etc.,” a senior government official told Mint.

The game also became a beacon for the anti-Chinese movement in India, resulting in bad PR and damage to the PUBG brand. The sentiment over this situation is divided right now between fans of the game and worried parents.

POTENTIAL PARTNERS

Having an Indian partner will not only help PUBG enter the Indian gaming market once more but might also help repair its brand image in India. But there are only a few companies who are capable of handling a game as big as PUBG in India.

RELIANCE JIO

There are also reports that suggest Reliance Jio is in discussion with PUBG Corporation and can take over the PUBG License to operate in India. It would make sense if this turned out to be true as the RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani himself has showcased his interest in the gaming market with Reliance also investing heavily in the industry.

PAYTM

Despite various rumors, it seems very unlikely that Paytm will go forth with this partnership considering they already have a partnership with Free Fire, a competitor for PUBG.

NAZARA TECHNOLOGIES

Navara is another company based in Mumbai which is quite capable of publishing the game for India and according to sources, they also seem to be interested in exploring a licensing relationship with PUBG.

His special ability is called Raging Reload; once an opponent is taken down, the gun’s magazine automatically gets reloaded by up to 25% of its capacity for ARs, SMGs, and pistols. This will prove to be quite a useful ability in firefights which can turn the tide of a battle very easily.

BLACK PANTHER

In a recent live stream, Square Enix paid tribute to Chadwick Boseman and decided to not showcase any gameplay featuring the character. It can be assumed that the character will be coming right after Hawkeye and hopefully the developers will do right by the late actor’s memory.

LEAKED FUTURE DLC CHARACTERS

Just after launching the beta, there were reports of a data miner finding files related to future playable DLC characters. The post from the Reddit user has since been deleted but if its true the game will be adding the following characters post-launch.

  • Ant-Man

Xbox Reveals Prices And Release Date For Series X And Series S In India

Microsoft has just revealed the prices and release dates for their next-gen consoles. The pre-orders for the Xbox Series S and the Xbox Series X will start on September 22 with the consoles set for release on November 10.

In India, the Series X is priced at ₹49,990 while the Series S is priced at ₹34,990. Comparatively, in the US the Xbox Series X is priced at $499 and Xbox Series S is $299. Looking at this there seems to be a considerable mark up when comparing both prices especially for the Xbox Series S.

When we take a look at the current conversion rate Xbox Series S costs just around ₹22,000 in the US but there seems to be a ₹13,000 mark up in India due to customs duty and other taxes. Xbox Series X on the other hand is available at quite a reasonable price with only ₹4,000 in taxes.

These prices also seem to align with previous rumors about next-gen consoles prices and release dates.

Xbox Series X vs Xbox Series S

In terms of specs, the major differences between the consoles lie in graphical performance and storage. The Series X promises a 4K gaming experience with 60 FPS that can go up to 120 FPS. The Series S on the other hand maintains the same performance and FPS but from the graphical quality to 1440p.

Storage seems to be another big difference between the two consoles with Series X offering a 1TB SSD storage whereas Series S offers a 512GB SSD storage which leaves much to be desired.

CONCLUSION

All in all, Microsoft has done a great job of offering these next-gen consoles at such different price points. If users want the best experience they can choose to go for Xbox Series X but if not the Xbox Series S provides a wonderful entry point for next-gen consoles given the price.

PUBG Developers Cut Ties With Tencent

It was just recently that the Indian government banned PUBG Mobile along with 117 other Chinese apps. After that fans of the game were left wondering about the future of the mobile game in India. However, we finally have some good news as PUBG Corporation has made the decision to no longer authorize the PUBG Mobile to be published by Tencent Games in India.

This information was released through a blog post by the company in which they stated that, “Moving forward, PUBG Corporation will take on all publishing responsibilities within the country.” They further added, “As the company explores ways to provide its own PUBG experience for India in the near future, it is committed to doing so by sustaining a localized and healthy gameplay environment for its fans.”

PUBG MOBILE is the mobile version of PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG), an intellectual property owned and developed by PUBG Corporation, a South Korean gaming company. The company is actively engaged in developing and publishing PUBG on multiple platforms, including PUBG MOBILE in select territories, to provide the best player experiences possible.”

They ended the statement by saying that, “PUBG Corporation is committed to providing its unique battle royale experience to a global audience and hopes to continue engaging with its passionate player base in India. In addition to regular content updates, the company is exploring different ways to engage its community in India through various region-based activities, including esports and community events.”

The PC version of the game is published by the developer themselves and it was only for the sake of publishing the Mobile version that PUBG Corporation relied on Tencent Games. It is likely that we will see the game come back to us as the developer hopes to work hand-in-hand with the Indian government to find a solution that will allow gamers to once again drop into the battlegrounds while being fully compliant with Indian laws and regulations.

PUBG Mobile Ban: Everything You Need To Know

By now most of you must have heard about this unfortunate development, that PUBG Mobile has been banned in India. After a month of rumors surrounding its ban due to privacy concerns the Indian government has finally announced a ban on 118 Chinese apps including PUBG Mobile.

According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, “PUBG Mobile has been banned under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, on grounds that they are engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order.”

REASON FOR THE BAN

PUBG Mobile is developed by PUBG corporation(formerly Bluehole) which is based in South Korea but unlike its PC counterpart it is published by Tencent Games.

Tencent is a Chinese tech conglomerate which has a 10% stake in PUBG Corporation and is also suspected of sharing user data with the Chinese government. The reason for this ban is seemingly due to the risk of Indian user data being used by the Chinese government through companies such as Tencent.

It is ironic that the game itself was about to be banned in China back in 2017 due to its violent and graphic nature. However, an alternative version was released under the name “Fight for peace” which was state approved.

POLICY UPDATE AND INDIAN SERVERS

Although it was just a month ago that PUBG Mobile had updated its privacy policy for India and clarified how they utilize the user data to provide services. They even mentioned that the data provided by Indian users is now being stored in servers located in India.

Compared to users in other countries whose data is still being stored in Chinese servers, Indian users still had the extra layer of protection in terms of third parties accessing user info. All of this was done to protect the game from getting banned in India but that was all for nothing.

ALTERNATIVES TO PUBG MOBILE

Players are now looking towards alternative games such as COD Mobile, Free Fire, and Fortnite to fill up that void left by PUBG. The clear outlier here is definitely COD Mobile. However, it seems that too is published by Tencent.

EFFECT ON GAMING IN INDIA

The game has had a huge impact in India in a sense that it became a cultural phenomenon. PUBG had more than 175 million game installation in India with around 25% of all of the game’s global player-base coming from here. It not only popularized gaming in India but also provided benefit to many industries, especially entertainment and mobile industry.

POSSIBILITY OF AN UN-BAN

Previously, Pakistan too placed a similar ban on PUBG Mobile which was later lifted on July 26. After a public outcry on the internet, the country’s government officials had a meeting with game representatives in which they decided to reverse that order. According to Pakistan government officials, the reason for the ban was due to long term psychological effects.

A similar situation is possible in the case of India but the quickest solution would be for Tencent to cut ties with the game completely. However, that too seems unlikely considering how the game is a cash cow for the company.
