Pokemon Sword and Shield Trailer Shows off New Pokemon and Teams

Pokemon Sword and Shield’s new trailer shows off some interesting new additions to the game which include new pokemon forms as well as a new team who you’ll go up against.

Let’s start off with the Pokemon first. Just like Alola, the Galar region has its own variant of Pokemon called the Gallarian Forms. In this trailer, they showed off four such forms. The first we got to see was a Galarian Weezing who is Grey, wears a top hat and has a facial hair that’s made up of toxic smog.

We also saw the Galarian Zigzagoon and Linoone who are Normal/Dark types and Linoone gets an evolution and evolves into a bipedal Pokemon, Obstagoon who is also Dark/Normal.

We also got a glimpse at a new form changing Pokemon called Morpeko(Electric/Dark) who has two forms. Full Belly form where it’s Aura Wheel moves is Electric-type and Hangry form where it changes to Dark-type.

Our rivals were also introduced to us. Bede and Marnie are out two rivals and Marnie has her own fan following, a bunch of people who go by the name of Team Yell and they look like proper Hooligans.

Pokemon Sword and Shield: Gigantamaxing and Version Exclusive Gym Leaders

As we inch closer to Pokemon Sword and Shield’s release date, we get more information regarding the game’s new mechanics.

The new ability besides Dynamaxing is called Gigantamaxing. Gigantamaxing changes both the size and the appearance of the Pokemon. Unlike Dynamax though, Gigantamax only happens to a few select few Pokemon of the species and they can be caught by participating in Max Raid Battles.

Gigantamax also gives access to a special G-Max Move. Each G-Max Move is particular to a specific species of Gigantamax Pokémon, and regular Dynamax Pokémon can’t use G-Max Moves.

We have also learned that Pokemon Sword and Shield will have version exclusive gyms. Pokemon Sword gets Bea, the Fighting-type expert while Pokemon Shield gets Allister, the Ghost-type expert.

Besides that, there are region exclusive Pokemon as well. Deino and Jangmo-o only appear in Pokémon Sword and Larvitar and Goomy only appear in Pokémon Shield.

We also got to see new Pokemon from the Galar region, one of which who Gigantamaxes into a  huge cake. First ice-creams and now cake, we wonder what’s next in the Pokemon Confectionary family.

Nintendo has officially announced Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield for Switch. It will launch simultaneously worldwide in late 2019.

Here is an overview of the game, via The Pokemon Company:

The Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield games take place in the Galar region. Galar is an expansive region with diverse environments— an idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forest, and craggy, snow-covered mountains. The people and the Pokemon who live there work together closely to develop the industries in the region. Fans will have the opportunity to visit various Gyms in the Galar region in their quest to become Champion. They will not be alone, since the newly discovered Pokemon they choose to be their first partner will be by their side.

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are the latest exciting adventures in the Pokemon video game journey that began twenty-three years ago on this day,” said Mr. Ishihara. “Since then, Trainers around the world have discovered new Pokemon, engaged in epic battles, and made countless memories along the way. We look forward to continuing this journey by exploring a stunning new region in the Pokemon universe when the games launch later this year on Nintendo Switch.”
