Rainbow Six Siege is Getting a Battle Pass

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is getting a Battle Pass starting with the Year 4 Season 3 and it is titled “Call me Harry”.

Call me Harry is a mini-battle pass that will be free for all players. This battle pass will last for 7 days with the end reward of a chibi Harry charm. This mini-battle pass will launch with the Embers Rise update.

A proper Battle Pass will also come to the come to the game in Year 4 Season 4 with a free and a “premium” variant. While you can unlock items in the free variant the premium variant will probably have exclusive items. The battle pass will also use Dr.  Harishva “Harry” Pandey as the narrator who will shed more light into the world of Rainbow 6 and its operators through comic books and other media.

This announcement has left a bad taste in the mouth of most of the Rainbow 6 community. There’s a lot of bugs that haven’t been fixed yet and on top of already paying for the game and different operators, they’re now also adding a paid battle pass to the game. The game now feels choke-full of microtransactions.

In free games like Fortnite, it is understandable and in PUBG, it’s also somewhat understandable as every season brings in a new Season Pass but the only thing you pay for in that are skins, that too if you want to.  In R6, you pay for the game and then if you don’t want to grind a bunch, you also have to pay for operators. And then you have microtransactions for Skins like in most games along with a Battle Pass now which has really ticked off most people.

AN OLD TALE

In the Wildest days of the West, two factions clashed on many occasions. Faced with justice, the vile Graveltop Gang always managed to vanish into the desert. That is until they finally faced off in the husk of an old fort. That day, they say bullets rained like never before.

Meet The Law, or the big guns as we like to call ’em. There’s never been a band of gunslingers more dedicated to justice:

  • Erik “Maverick” Thorn
  • Eliza “Ash” Cohen
  • Emmanuelle “Twitch” Pichon
  • Vicente “Capitão” Souza
  • Timur “Glaz” Glazkov

They’re on a hunt to arrest their sworn enemies, the ghastly Graveltop Gang. These bandits let their guns do the talking, and they don’t know what surrender means:

  • Aria “Alibi” de Luca
  • Jalal “Kaid” El Fassi
  • Taina “Caveira” Pereira
  • Adriano “Maestro” Martello
  • Julien “Rook” Nizan

What happened between the two made history… although the telling of the tale varies. What side are you on?

Rainbow Six Siege Visual Changes Reverted by Ubisoft

Three weeks back all the talk was about the Rainbow Six Siege visual changes which Ubisoft was making to make the game available in China.

The community was extremely upset about this and the game was review bombed on Steam. After a lot of posts from players mainly criticizing Ubisoft for these cosmetic changes, Ubisoft has finally announced that they will be reverting all the visual changes that they made to the global version of the game.  As to why they are reverting back to the original design, here’s what they had to say in a dev blog:

“We have been following the conversation with our community closely over the past couple of weeks, alongside regular discussions with our internal Ubisoft team, and we want to ensure that the experience for all our players, especially those that have been with us from the beginning, remains as true to the original artistic intent as possible.”

While many thought that Ubi would be unfazed by the community outcry, it seems that they were actually paying attention to the community and have listened to them. Many are hoping that with this Ubi will also start paying attention to other parts of the game too that the community has been talking about, like the OP characters that need nerfs and the characters that need a Buff to be relevant. Some might even say that they waited until now to undo it so that they could boost sales for the Season Pass since they will revert the changes with the Operation Wild Bastion update.

Rainbow Six Siege Review Bombed After China Censorship

China is growing as a big market for video games, however, there are various restrictions as to what games are allowed and not. CSGO has its own version specifically for China that lacks the blood and other violent symbolism.

Ubisoft is trying to expand their games to China with Rainbow Six Siege and to do this they’re altering the global version a bit, with only visual tweaks and with a separate region locked version for China with gameplay changes that meet the standards of their market. Some of the global changes include a change in the icons, removal of skulls and anything related to gambling.

Members of the R6 community are up in arms about these changes as they feel Ubisoft are cooperating with a dictator and the fact that they’re making changes to the game is offensive to them. Redditor Qwikskoupa69, said “If you are changing the game to fit a fascist countries’ [sic] standards then you might as well remove [Tom Clancy’s] name because he is rolling in his grave right now. This game resembles nothing of that what he wrote.” The Steam reviews have made the game “Mixed” and the negative reviews have been coming in ever since the announcement was made.

While many members of the community are upset about this, people who are part of the R6 Siege esports scene like pro-player Pengu and commentator Parker “Interro” Mackay backed Ubi’s decision. Interro even mocked people who were up in arms about the situation with the above tweet. While the changes for the Global Release are aesthetic, people are worried about how it’ll affect future creative decisions. They’re also criticizing Ubi for not listening to the community and not fixing various debuffed or buffed characters. Various Ubisoft reps have been replying to people on various platforms however we are yet to hear Ubisoft’s official take on the situation.

What are your thoughts about this situation? Is Ubisoft being a greedy corporation and shelling out just to get the money from a new market or do you feel they’re doing their best with the given situation? Let us know down below.
