Splinter Cell was one of the most fun stealth games to play back in the day. With the variety in gadgets, the engaging story and detailed environments, Splinter Cell games were an absolute joy to play through and still are. Sadly, the last installment released in 2013 and we’re still waiting for a new one.
Earlier this year, Ghost Recon: Wildlands had a crossover event that teased Sam Fisher and that got fans of the series super excited. We haven’t heard much about the franchise since then but in a recent interview with Game Informer, Ubisoft Chief Creative Officer Serge Hascoet said “I love Splinter Cell, I love Prince of Persia. I can’t disclose any information at this time, but I can say we are fighting for resources. It’s not a question of will, it’s a question of means.” That sounds like they’re struggling to get those games greenlit and games like Assassin’s Creed, The Division and Far Cry seem to be getting the limelight.
However, it could also be that the games Ubisoft is currently focusing on include microtransaction in some way or another which rakes in that extra revenue and they might be looking for ways to implement it in Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell without hampering the game’s experience. Fans have expressed their desire for those games so it’s not like those franchises are dead so why Ubisoft hasn’t decided to revive two of their most popular franchises is yet to be seen.
