Counter-Strike recently turned 20 years old and many people expected some sort of anniversary update to go with it and Valve seems to have delivered in an odd way.
The new CSGO update brings in a Retro Dust II map which basically retextures the map to look like the Dust II from 1.6. There is a caveat with it which is that this classic map is only available every alternate round and ONLY in the Casual game mode.
While that seems to be a temporary update, there is a permanent change introduced in this update and that is an adjustment to the AUG. The AUG has finally been nerfed after many called it out for being too overpowered and some even said it broke the game.
The AUG now has a reduced unscoped accuracy which means that you will most probably want to use the scope on medium ranges now instead of just treating it like a scoped M4A4. Another change is that its rate of fire has been slowed down. It had the same Rate of Fire as the M4A4 before but now is on par with the AK47 and M4A1-S. This change does make the AUG’s recoil pattern much simpler.
Curiously, the crouching accuracy of the AUG has still not changed when both scoped and unscoped so that will be interesting because we might now see people who play with the AUGs crouch more frequently. Maybe this is Valve’s way of forcing the players to use a more passive approach instead of using it for both short and long range engagements like before.
Besides these two big changes, they added a new Chicken Capsule to the game with Chicken related stickers and they made a few changes to warmup period of the Danger Zone game mode as well as fixed an exploit specific to that game mode. The full change-log can be read below.
