Dota 2, a free-to-play MOBA that spawned into existence as a mode now has the highest prize pool in esports history.
Every year at the end of the DotA Pro Circuit(DPC), the conclusion tournament known as “The International” is held. The prize pool for this is funded by the items and Battlepasses that players purchase as a certain percentage of each purchase adds to the prize pool.
This year, The Internation 9 will take place in Shanghai and its prize pool has crossed $25 Million as it sits at $25,652,224. It is currently $6,172,768 ahead of the prize pool from last year.
In comparison, League of Legends’ prize pool was $6.4 million and Valve’s own Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s largest prize pool ever was $1.5 million.
The International 9 starts on August 15th with the Group Stages while the qualifiers start from 3rd July.
