If you’re the type of Vault Hunter who loves a challenge, Borderlands 3 lets you test your skills to score some top-tier loot in the crucibles of the all-new Proving Grounds and the returning Circle of Slaughter arenas. Gearbox creative director Paul Sage announced these Borderlands 3 features in conversation with Geoff Keighley during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live show in Cologne, Germany, revealing how these rewarding and highly replayable missions work.
Throughout Borderlands 3’s journey across the solar system, you’ll find Circle of Slaughter arenas sponsored by the combustion-obsessed weapons manufacturers at Torgue. Once you’ve signed up for a Circle of Slaughter, it’s do or die; if you’re downed and no one’s around to revive you, your run is officially over and you can say goodbye to a big payout. You’ll be up against an army of enemies who attack in droves across five rounds with multiple waves each, blasting everything that moves until no bandit, ‘bot, or hostile beast is left standing. All the while, your delicate ears will be graced by the expletive-filled hollering of Mister Torgue himself, who provides some extremely colorful commentary and doesn’t tolerate failure. If you’re hoping to impress Mister Torgue and his impossibly massive pecs, you can show off some flair by completing bonus objectives like racking up kills via melee attacks, ground slams, or—if you really want to pander to your target audience—grenades. EXPLOSIONS!
Later in the campaign, you may be worthy of taking part in the Proving Grounds: themed gauntlets watched over by a Guardian known as the Overseer who wishes to test your mettle on behalf of the mysterious “Masters.” Proving Grounds are races against the clock, tasking you with blitzing your way through three areas filled with baddies and beating a boss in 30 minutes or less. If you complete your chosen Trial quickly and efficiently you’ll earn better bounties, and for even greater rewards you can complete bonus objectives like beating the Proving Grounds without dying, completing it with a certain amount of time remaining, or managing to find and eliminate an elusive Fallen Guardian who roams the area. The chest that awaits at the end of the Proving Grounds always contains valuable loot, but you’ll need to display true mastery if you want the best rewards.
If you’re excited about Borderlands 3 and are looking forward to playing the game the moment it launches on PC, you might sadly have to wait a bit longer. Especially if you have a slow internet connection.
I’m sorry, we won’t have support for preloading in the Borderlands release timeframe.
The Epic Games Store won’t let you preload the game because they supposedly don’t have the support for it. They’ve been under a lot of fire because of their exclusivity deals and most people aren’t happy about it. Especially after they realized that Epic Games has support for pre-loading but won’t have it for Borderlands 3.
It’s Complicated. We’ve released support for file preloading which is sufficient for some games, but we aren’t certain it’s up to the demands of a blockbuster like Borderlands.
According to Tim Sweeney, they haven’t done it for Borderlands 3 because they aren’t certain if they will be able to support the demands of a game like Borderlands 3. So maybe they’re just trying to not risk it because they’re not sure if it’ll work well and don’t want to end up having issues with it and then catching more flak for it.
Whatever the reason may be, it’s a bit of a bummer for people who have slow internet connections because they will have to wait till the day of the release to be able to download the game. Depending on their connection, this could take days because, in a lot of places, internet speeds are still slow.
At least they have the functionality according to their Trello board so hopefully, they can start using it for bigger games that they’ve made exclusive to their platform.
Borderlands 3’s final character trailer has released. This trailer features FL4K, an emergent AI who alongside his three loyal pets hunts folks across the galaxy.
The Beast Master FL4K is the hunter class for Borderlands 3 and along with his pets will aim to tear people up. If the voice for FL4K sounds familiar to you then it’s probably because it is voiced by SungWon Cho is also known as ProZD on Youtube.
In other news, Scott Velasquez, Online & Social Product Owner for Borderlands 3 talked about the game’s performance on the PlayStation 4 in an interview with the PlayStation Blog.
When asked whether or not the game will have different graphical settings on the PlayStation 4 Pro he stated that the game would take full advantage of the hardware.
“Yes, players will be able to choose between ‘favor resolution’ and ‘favor performance’ on the PS4 Pro through a new setting called Graphics Preference. When “favor resolution” is selected, we aim for the highest resolution possible, capping framerate at 30 frames per second. In “favor performance” mode, we increase the framerate cap to 60 frames per second and render at 1080P.”
So the game will get a higher resolution option with HDR as well but we don’t think it’s going to be native 4K like most games on the PS4 Pro. However, it is good to see that they’re giving people the option to choose a 60fps experience if they want but whether or not it’ll be a solid 60fps is yet to be seen.
Also, we hope that the base PS4 is not neglected. It’s most likely going to target [email protected] but we really hope that they manage to get it to stick that 30fps framerate. Otherwise, it will really hamper the experience and in a shooter like Borderlands 3, bad framerates will frustrate the player.
The game has gone gold about a month a half before it’s release date which is on September 13th. While the game is ready, we are yet to see character trailers for the rest of the playable characters besides Zane so as we get closer to the release date we can see more of these trailers.
Even though Borderlands 3 has been getting a bit of bad press because of the Epic Games Store exclusivity and because of Randy Pitchford’s antics, the game is still looked forward to by many people and is still an absolute fan favourite.
Borderlands 3 launches on September 13th for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and on PC exclusively via the Epic Games Store.
Publisher 2K Games and developer Gearbox Software debuted a new trailer for Borderlands 3during the Microsoft E3 2019 press conference.
Additionally, the company announced “Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary,” a new downloadable content for Borderlands 2 that sets the stage for Borderlands 3. Here is the full fact sheet:
“Commander Lilith & The Fight for Sanctuary” is a new downloadable campaign expansion for Borderlands 2—the award-winning shooter-looter that originally launched in 2012—that brings players back to the wilds of Pandora for a brand new adventure that sets the stage for Borderlands 3.
Sanctuary is under siege, the Vault Map has been stolen, and a toxic gas is poisoning Pandora. You’ll step back into the boots of legendary Vault Hunters Maya, Salvador, Axton, Zer0, Gaige or Krieg to battle new bosses, explore new areas, and collect new loot, including an entirely new tier beyond Legendary. Join up with Lilith and the Crimson Raiders to take on a deranged villain hell-bent on claiming the Vault Map for himself. Veteran players can pursue the new level cap, while newcomers can automatically boost to level 30 and dive straight into the action.
Story Content: The villainous Hector and his New Pandora Army want the Vault Map for their own ends, so they’re purging the planet using an insidious toxic gas that turns all those affected into mindless plant zombies. Fight alongside your favorite allies (plus a few new friends) across story missions and side quests alike.
Top Loot Tier: Legendary weapons are lovely and all, but now there’s an even rarer and more powerful tier in town: Effervescent. This tier features high stats, special effects, and some entrancing rainbow textures.
Weapons and Equipment: With a new top loot tier comes new top loot, including super rare named firearms like a shotgun that fires… well, let’s just say there are ponies and rainbows and explosions.
Enemies and Bosses: The toxic gas seems to be doing strange things to Pandora’s bandit and beast populations, mutating them into deadly “Infected” forms. Expect exploding plant monsters, ferocious boss battles, and an all new Raid Boss!
Ares: Shoot and loot your way through previously unexplored Pandoran locales, including the wreckage of a familiar space station and at least one forbidden research lab.
Customization Options: Each of the six Borderlands 2 Vault Hunters gets a new head and skin, while the two vehicle types receive three new skins apiece. Stylin’!
Level Cap: Veteran players can pursue the new level cap of 80 (up from 72), and super hardcore fans can challenge themselves to achieve the two new Overpowered Levels, accessible via Digistruct Peak.
How to Play
Commander Lilith & The Fight for Sanctuary is the fifth campaign DLC for Borderlands 2. A copy of Borderlands 2 (Steam) or Borderlands: The Handsome Collection (Xbox One, PlayStation 4) is required in order to play the DLC.
To access the new campaign content once the DLC is installed, you will need to visit the new “Fight for Sanctuary” location, which you can reach via any of the in-game Fast Travel stations. Please note that attempting to play the new Commander Lilith & The Fight for Sanctuary content is not recommended unless your Vault Hunter is at least level 30. We also encourage you to complete Borderlands 2’s main campaign first to avoid story spoilers.
Alternatively, new players and returning players who want to jump straight into Commander Lilith can instantly create a new level 30 Vault Hunter at the Select Character screen. This character will already have completed all but the final main mission of Borderlands 2 and will automatically start at the beginning of the new content.
Borderlands 3 is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 13.
