A game that had very humble beginnings is now en route to get its own TV show on the biggest streaming platform in the world. Cuphead is getting a TV Show called “The Cuphead Show!” that is going to follow the adventures of Cuphead and his brother Mugman.
Studio MDHR’s hit boss-rush title Cuphead is getting an animated series on Netflix. The Cuphead Show will follow Cuphead and his brother Mugman and their adventures in Inkwell Isle. The show won’t be a retelling of the game and will have original stories.
The Cuphead game primarily caught people’s attention thanks to its hand-drawn 1930’s animation style. This art style will carry over to the animated show as well however, it will be animated by Netflix’s own staff and not by Studio MDHR.
The animations will be hand drawn however, they’ll be hand drawn digitally and not on paper. “The current goal is to stay as far away from [computer-assisted] puppeteer animation as possible”, said Cuphead’s co-creator Chad Moldenhauer in a phone interview with IGN.
From mortgaging their house to complete the game to getting their own Animated Show, Studio MDHR and the Moldenhauer brothers have come a long way and we can’t wait to see how The Cuphead Show! turns out.
Cuphead’s first expansion deal that was announced back in 2018 has been delayed and will now release in 2020. However, they did give us this news with a bit of gameplay footage so we know what we can look forward to.
“Hello old friends and new!
Our highest priority with “The Delicious Last Course” is making sure this new adventure meets the meticulous level of care and quality we always strive for. It’s also important to us that we make things in a way that’s healthy and sustainable for our team. With that in mind, we’ll be moving the release for all platforms to 2020.
Our many thanks for your understanding, Chad & Jared Moldenhaur”

The classic run and gun action game is currently available for Xbox One, PC, and Mac. Here is an overview of the game, via its Steam page:
Cuphead is a classic run and gun action game heavily focused on boss battles. Inspired by cartoons of the 1930s, the visuals and audio are painstakingly created with the same techniques of the era, i.e. traditional hand drawn cel animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings.
Play as Cuphead or Mugman (in single player or local co-op) as you traverse strange worlds, acquire new weapons, learn powerful super moves, and discover hidden secrets while you try to pay your debt back to the devil!
