Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot had been shown up until Freiza Saga before, now we have footage of the game that features parts of the Cell Saga.
As seen from the trailer, Gohan will also be a playable character, especially during the Cell Saga. So not only do we get to play as Goku but we also get to play as Gohan. We see scenes of Goku taking care of Gohan and spending time with him.
We also see Gohan fight against Cell after Goku sacrifices himself but the coolest part of the trailer was when Goku was driving Gohan around. Goku finally got a driver’s license and we will finally be able to drive a vehicle as Goku.
The game has been accidentally announced to go up until the end of Buu saga by Sean Schemmel the voice actor of Goku so we can hope to see more story-based gameplay soon.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is the story of Son Goku however, it doesn’t mean that we’ll only get to play as the titular character.
According to V-Jump, a Japanese Manga Magazine we will get to not only play as Son Goku but also his first son, Gohan, his rival Vegeta and his other rival and child’s step-father, Piccolo.
The story of Gohan’s training under Piccolo will be expanded upon and we’ll get a much closer look at how their relationship grew, as well as how he shaped Gohan into the Warrior that we see by the end of Z.
We hope that since they’re expanding on this, we also get to see the first time Vegeta becomes a Super Saiyan and Goku turning Super Saiyan 3 in the Other World.
Tien, Yamcha, and Chiatozu are confirmed to be supporting characters and will join your party to help you during your battles. Tien and Yamcha have found a new level of respect as fighters thanks to Dragonball FighterZ and it would’ve been cool to perform some of their moves in the gang like the Shin-Kikoho or Wolf Fang Fist.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is set to release in 2020 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
The announcement trailer for Dragon Ball Game– Project Z, an all-new Action RPG for PS4, XB1 and PC is out now and we’re going to analyze it and talk more about this upcmoing title.
In this epic retelling, you will be able to play through the legendary adventures of the Saiyan named Kakarot…better known as Goku – recounting the beloved story of DRAGON BALL Z like never before. Developed in partnership with CyberConnect2, the game (with full title to be announced) will launch in 2019 featuring both Japanese and English voiceovers.
We don’t have a lot of information about the game but we do have enough to make a decent guess at what the game will be like. For most parts it seems like a remaster of or heavily inspired by Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku, a game for the GameBoy Advanced developed by Webfoot Technologies.
Legacy of Goku came out in 2002 and since this game only went up till the end of the Frieza saga, Webfoot made two more sequels named, The Legacy of Goku 2 and Buu’s Fury. In 2016, they did announce that they were making a sequel to those games as they started an Indie-GoGo campaign for it but it seems to have died down because there’s been no recent updates. We’ve reached out to them and will update this post if we hear back from them.
From the trailer though, it seems to be focused on the story of Son Goku and only shows moments till the Frieza saga with the last most scene from the show/manga being Goku turning SSJ for the first time. This is one of the main reasons why we think it is a Legacy of Goku inspired title, more-so with the fact that it is an Action-RPG title.
The visuals look similar to almost all mainstream Dragon Ball games with cell-shaded 3D models and environments. It also looks like this will be a 3D fighting game like Xenoverse 2 and not like FighterZ. Most of what we saw seemed to be footage from the game engine with only the last shots of Goku walking being actual gameplay.
In terms of locations, we have West City, Kame House, Namek, The forest near Goku’s house and a forest near West City. It will be interesting to see if it’ll be an open-world game or if we’ll be locked to small hubs which we can travel between from a menu. I’m hoping for an open-world game with side-missions and such.
Join Goku and fellow warriors in the neverending search for the ultimate fight — COMING 2019!
What’s interesting to note is that the game will release in 2019. We’re in the first month of 2019 with 11 more months left but it still seems like a really quick release date. This could probably be the reason why we’ve only seen Pre-Android saga footage because maybe it just isn’t ready or maybe they’ll be added later on to the game.
However, in this day and age it doesn’t make sense to release the game in episodic parts because even if they go the Hitman 2016 route with it, it really doesn’t make sense unless they’re trying to release the game ASAP to stay on the hype that the Broly movie has created and the inevitable announcement of the continuation of the Dragon Ball Super anime.
Another worrying aspect is that will this game also not be distributed in India due to a licensing issue. India has a huge Dragon Ball fan following and a lot of them would happily buy Xenoverse and FighterZ if they’d be available on the official marketplace but sadly have to get the games through re-sellers which sucks.
It is a great time to be a Dragon Ball fan and with so much Dragon Ball content coming our way, I can’t wait to see more about Project Z.
