“The new and exciting partnership with Konami will see the eFootball PES series have exclusive use of Juventus intellectual property within console football video games, including the team name, the crest, and official kits.”
This partnership means that for the first time in FIFA’s history they won’t have the license to Juventus and have them in their game in an official capacity. The club and its players will still be available in the game.
Piemonte Calcio is the name chosen by EA to replace Juventus and they’ve also developed a new kit and badge for the club. The players will still be in the game and will retain their likeness.
This is another step that Konami seems to be taking to somehow rebrand the image of PES especially after they changed the name of the game to eFootball PES. This isn’t the first time they’ve had an exclusive deal like this.
They’ve also had such deals with Barcelona in the past but only for their stadium, Camp Nou. Similarly this year, Allianz Arena which is home to Bayern Munich is also exclusive to PES 2020. PES still seems to be playing catch-up with FIFA and it’ll be interesting to see if and how this change affects sales of both the games.
With the recent craze of Battle Royale games like PUBG and Fortnite, video games have gotten even more into the limelight. While loot boxes are a topic of heavy contention with different viewpoints, governments and regulatory bodies have their own stance about it. Because of this very recently members of the UK Parliament sat down with representatives of Epic Games and EA to hear their views on certain topics and let’s just say that some things that they said during it were quite interesting.
When asked about what the companies thought and felt about loot boxes and whether or not the companies think it is ethical, EA was the first to talk about it. According to the EA representative, EA doesn’t use the term “Loot Boxes” and instead call them “Surprise Mechanics”. She likened it to Kinder Eggs where you get a surprise regarding what’s inside and she stated that people enjoyed the element of surprise, especially players who play FIFA and Ultimate Team.
She further went on to state that the “Surprise Mechanics” were fun and quite enjoyable and says that she doesn’t believe in the fact that Loot Boxes or “Surprise Mechanics” lead to gambling. According to her, the way EA has implemented loot boxes in their games is 100% ethical and that they have no qualms about it.
Throughout the entire meeting when asked pressing questions, Epic Games were very deflective and evasive as they would beat around the bush instead of actually answering the question and were even called out by an MP who asked them if they were coached to answer because of how they responded to questions.
While some of the questions asked were alright, some of the questions that were asked made it quite clear that the person wasn’t well-versed with video games and didn’t know much about the companies and topic at hand besides a few articles that they had opened up.
This begs the question that why isn’t there some sort of committee made up of people who know about the industry and are also well-versed with the technical aspect of it so that when such meetings take place, companies can’t just beat around the bush or talk their way out of it by throwing around technical terms.
The EA representative claiming that EA implements loot boxes ethically clearly doesn’t remember the Battlefront 2 debacle that occurred at launch. While the microtransaction aspect of the game has since improved, EA and other companies certainly seem to push microtransactions in subtle ways, especially towards pre-adolescent and adolescent teens.
There were a lot of other topics discussed during the meeting like whether or not they tracked how long players played a game(both companies replied they didn’t) and about addiction, parental control, and gambling which you can check out for yourself and see how bad some of the questions were and how evasive the responses were. The meeting is linked below and goes on for a bit over 2 hours long.
FIFA 19 is finally out and with it begins the quest to become the best FIFA player online. While some choose to stick to good old regular division matches, many love the Ultimate Team game mode and its mechanics. Well, this year thanks to the whole loot box debacle, EA has shared the odds for the pack unlocks, and oh boy are they not what you’d want.
As seen from the image the chance to unlock a “Ones to Watch Player” is Less than 1%. Ones To Watch are those players cards that are dynamic which means they get a permanent rating boost throughout the season if they perform well. Cristiano Ronaldo also has a Ones to Watch card which will probably make that card the most valuable card right now.
Back to the chances, you have less than 1% of a chance to get those cards. That less than 1% could even mean a 0.001% chance or a 0.01 % chance. And this for the Premium Electrum Players Pack which is a type of Promo pack. While players can now see how much the odds are against their favour, I doubt it will change the fact that people will still spend their money on pack openings because of the thrill of it. As always though, make decisions responsibly because every person’s decision counts when it comes to loot boxes and games as your wallet is what does the talking.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the finale of Lara Croft’s trilogy of how she becomes the infamous Tomb Raider and is slated to release on 14th September. While the game does look great, will it be overshadowed because of the releases surrounding it? Let’s take a look and find out.
Spider-Man for the PlayStation 4 released on September 7th to widespread critical acclaim with many calling it the best superhero game to date, a game even better than the games from the Arkham series. The game has been out for a week and players are still hooked onto it because it has so many things to offer. From side quests to the extremely fun picture mode, this game has PlayStation users singing praises of Insomniac Games’ masterpiece.
But here’s the thing, this phenomenal game is only available on the PlayStation 4 unlike Shadow of the Tomb Raider which will be available on all major platforms. However, those who have spent $60 to buy Spider-Man won’t be so excited to pick up Shadow of the Tomb Raider and might wait for a sale, later on, to pick it up.
Sports titles like NFL and FIFA are going to come out in the coming two weeks and they have a very loyal fan base who would prefer those games to any other AAA titles most of the time. NBA 2K19 is already out and you’ve got even more competition for SOTR. While they aren’t similar titles in any way, they’re competing for the Player’s attention and money.
And as September ends with the release of Life of Strange 2, a sequel awaited by all those who’ve played the original game, September just feels way too packed with either release of a yearly series or a game that people have been waiting for quite a while. October rolls in and so does Forza Horizon 4 also launches on 2nd October but racing games, especially ones like Forza are usually bought by fans of the series or of racing games in particular so I don’t see it affecting things much. The big first release of October though is Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on 5th October and this game is an odd one because it changes a lot of things and brings a lot of series firsts in terms of gameplay and story and since it is part of an established long-running series of games, there’s no way this game is not going to be bought by a huge amount of gamers. Now rolls in a period of about a week after which releases, Call of Duty Black Ops 4.
Call of Duty games always do well and this is surely going to do well because this game also has a lot of new changes and fresh ideas that players have been wanting for a while. Then comes the two weeks during which I feel SOTR could do amazing if it were to even go on a slight sale because people are anticipating Red Dead Redemption 2 and since PC players won’t be getting this game at the moment, it seems like the perfect time to help boost sales for SOTR because once 26th October rolls around, everyone will just be talking about Red Dead Redemption 2. Whether it’s going to be positive or negative talk is yet to be seen but it’s going to be what everyone will be buying and playing.
November starts off slow but picks up with Hitman 2 and Spyro Reignited on 13th November and Fallout 76 on 14th November. The next big release is on 20th of November with Battlefield V. Battlefield V was initially slated to release on 19th October but was pushed to 20th November later which seems like a good move since it is a relatively calmer period for game releases and it won’t be competing with RDR2 or CoD Black Ops 4 for sales in a jam-packed October.
We’ve been spoilt with a bunch of great releases in Q4 of 2018 but SOTR seems to be in a weird place. It releases at the start Q4 but during a very competitive period which could mean bad initial commercial success even if the game is good. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is playable now for those with the Croft Edition of the game and while there seems to be a lot of positive news about the game, it’s release date could hamper its commercial success. It is going to be interesting to see how this quarter of the year plays out in terms of sales and how games fair commercially.

The Battle Royale genre has swept the gaming world and is extremely popular. From PC and console to mobiles, everybody seems to be playing some sort of Battle Royale game. EA Sports decided to change up the usual formula and have added new modes to the regular Kick Off mode. While they have teased a 5v5 mode, there’s also a mode that they’ve dubbed the “Survival Mode”.
Survival Mode starts off as a regular 11v11 match but each goal you score means that one of your players leaves the field. The field size remains the same and follows usual FIFA rules where you need to have 7 players on the field otherwise you forfeit the match. The first player to score 5 goals wins. This is quite familiar to the mode in FIFA Street that released for the PlayStation 3 in 2012. It seems like a great time to bring in such a mode to capitalize on the Battle Royale genre in their own unique way. With FIFA 19 right around the corner, we won’t have to wait too long to find out more about the Survival Mode and all the new changes in the series.
E3 put up a great show this year with publishers unbinding their premier games. PlayStation, Xbox, EA, Square Enix, Bethesda to name a few unveiled their hottest titles. After a long wait we finally catch glimpse into the biggest gaming show of the year.
Here are some top picks from the conference.
“Bethesda Game Studios, the award-winning creators of Skyrim and Fallout 4, welcome you to Fallout 76, the online prequel where every surviving human is a *real person*. Work together – or not – to survive. Under the threat of nuclear annihilation, you’ll experience the largest, most dynamic world ever created in the legendary Fallout universe.”
Multiplayer is now in the game. Taking the form of S.P.E.C.I.A.L forces to explore the post nuclear MURICAAA! . It has been said that the game is 4 times bigger size of it’s prequel, Fallout 4. Risks surround every corner in this catastrophe struck world.
Get your Beta access by pre-ordering the game. 14th November, 2018,. Mark your calendars.
Die Meister, Die Besten, Les grandes équipes,The champions. *Champions League Theme*
I can’t speak for the rest of you but when the trailer kicked off, I certainly had goosebumps. We’ve waited for this for years now. After a 10 year wait, EA has officially acquired the official license for UEFA Champions League from it’s age old competitors Konami (PES).
Right into action, Ronaldo catches a hold of the ball & unleashes his magic on the pitch, followed by Kevin De Bruyne, Neymar & many others, we see a lot of fancy goals & shimmies. “Champions Rise, Be A Champion”
Active Touch System – Giving you much more control on the ball & options for various exits to beat the defender inducing unpredictability which actually contributes to having a much more realistic gameplay
New tactics & mentalities from the touch of a button
NO PARK THE BUSSSSSSSSSSS
Timed Finishing – Goodbye to spamming the shoot button, won’t work this year. Thank you EA!
Watch the trailer below to catch a glimpse to what the game offers, we’ll update you as we find out new features.
A combination of a RPG, first person shooter and an Open world game. CD Projekt Red‘s Cyberpunk 2077 can be described as a “narrative-driven First Person RPG”. It takes place in an alternate-reality version of Northern California, in a sprawling mega-city filled with augmented humans. You can choose your character’s gender, pick a look, and assign skill points to better suit your playstyle. But Cyberpunk 2077 also goes a step further, and lets you craft your own simple backstory. You can choose from childhood events that shaped your character, and these in turn will influence how people perceive you in the game. You can also upgrade your skills and physical stats as you go on with your storyline.
World of CyberPunk 2077
Particularly impressive were the citizens, who all moved about naturally, as if they had their own lives going on. CD Projekt Red says that each non-playable character has their own day / night cycle, so that they behave differently depending on the time of day. They can also behave differently depending on what you do in the game.
Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to the PC, PS4, and Xbox One, though there’s no word on a release date yet.
Shadow of Tomb Raider
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is an upcoming action-adventure video game developed by Eidos Montréal in conjunction with Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix. It is the third entry of the rebooted Tomb Raider series and a sequel to 2015’s Rise of the Tomb Raider.
The story takes place after the events of Rise of the Tomb Raider. The protagonist Lara Croft is an archaeologist on an expedition to Latin America looking for a Mayan relic which has a connection to her late father. Trinity, a paramilitary organization dedicated to investigating the supernatural, seek the relic to reshape the world. During the expedition Lara sets off a Mayan apocalypse and she attempts to save the world. There are numerous adjustments made to gameplay, which is otherwise identical to Rise. The controls for swimming have been completely revised, as Lara is now able to hold her breath underwater for a longer period of time due to the introduction of air pockets. She also gains the ability to rappel down a cliff using a rope. Stealth becomes an important part of the game, with Lara being able to disengage from combat when she escapes from enemies’ line of sight. Like its predecessors, the game allows players to hunt wild animals, craft materials using the resources collected, solve puzzles and explore optional tombs. Shadow of Tomb Raider is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox one and PC on 14th September 2018.
An eye catching 3-D snippet at the kick off of the EA Play 2018 conference was of Bioware & EA’s collaborated development “Anthem”, a Sci-Fi action role playing game which already left a pleasing impression back in E3 2017 with its superbly sophisticated yet gorgeous environment. The game focuses on the storyline of how a natural phenomenon threatens to wipe out the entire mankind and how a faction by the name of “Freelancers” struggle from keeping things from going south. The game is set to release in February 2019 which seems to be a decade long wait but like the saying goes, ‘patience always lead to sweeter results’.
It might be true that ‘Marvel Avengers: Infinity War’ was “the most ambitious crossover”, but “Jump Force”, a revelation at the Microsoft E3 2018, surely knocked the socks off for Marvel. A new generation all-star brawler developed by Bandai Namco, brings the major characters from the most beloved works in the Anime & Manga world in an arena, which is, prima facie, based in the United States. A confirmed release date hasn’t been announced yet but it’s for sure that the Manga & Anime fanatics will have to wait till the next year.
Forza Horizon 4
Developer Playground Games have always impressed the racing video games fanatics with each of their Forza’s franchise till date and the developers, now acquired by Microsoft, have hit the right note this time as well with their upcoming release “Forza Horizon 4” According to GameSpot, “During a meeting at E3 2018 this week, Playground’s Ben Penrose spoke about how Forza Horizon 4 offers the “biggest paradigm shift” since the Forza Horizon series began back in 2012.” ‘Seasons’, the new gameplay mode offered in Forza Horizon 4, will be this franchise’s ace card apart from the beautifully rendered seasons in Britain. Forza 4 is expected to roll out this fall.
Delhi has endowed us with exceptional players, who have shown their remarkable talent time to time & with consistency, in a setting which is constantly referred as one of the toughest regions in our domestic FIFA circuit. Lokmanyu definitely tops the list, a 22 year old eSports Athlete & Footballer from the heart of the city.
With just a year into pursuing the game professionally, he made his name to the top & conquered the scene.
Though what may seem like an overnight success, Lokmanyu has had his fair share of struggles, after struggling for a year without being able to get past the initial rounds in Tournaments, he had his major breakthrough after winning the GamingMonk FIFA Championship Delhi & there was no turning back, bagging more than a 20 Tournaments he now leads the pack to leading competitions in India.
We caught a hold of Lokmanyu at a recent event in Delhi, here are some insights & bits about the conversation we had with him.
Let’s begin with your introduction. Tell us a bit about yourself?
” My name is Lokmanyu Chaturvedi, I’m 22 years old and I belong from the capital of our country. I’m a huge FIFA enthusiast. Few years into the game in what was just a hangout game to settle the age old club rivalries, it became my passion. I love playing Football & have been pursuing it at a semi-professional level “
Alright, so Lokmanyu can you describe your overall experience playing the tournaments at the portal over these months? “So my journey on the Gaming Monk eSports portal started with me being one of the very first players to sign up and experience first hand the idea, the whole concept of an eSports portal and the experience was absolutely thrilling. The way the tournaments were scheduled actually gave me an idea about how I’ll spend my time other than my working hours. In fact I was the one who won the very first Silver series tournament against one of the top most FIFA players of this country. First win lead to many more and the reason behind me winning about 11 tournaments on the portal now is because Monk provides you with the Pro Points tournament that helps you practice almost on a daily basis. In a nutshell, the portal is probably the best opportunity for all the aspiring e-sports gamers to showcase their talent”
What are your views on the current situation of eSports in our country? “The current situation is really difficult to explain as far as my knowledge. Some people are taking a massive effort to make his industry grow but the government needs to support this cause without which it’ll just be another passion going down the drains. Games like CS and DOTA have been at the top in Indian e-Sports but FIFA needs a big platform and I really wish to contribute to making it a success”
The competition is immense in FIFA amongst Indian pros’. How do you deal with this statement every time you sit for a tournament game? “For me it’s all about your mental approval towards the game. If you’re mentally prepared to win a game and as a pro you are definitely equipped with the skill set, you’ll excel no matter what. As far as the competition is concerned, indeed there are so many great gamers it’s very difficult to compete against them, It’s always crucial to learn from a loss against a good player, I think that is the key to use the competition and turn it into your own success”
It’s always crucial to learn from a loss against a good player, I think that is the key to use the competition and turn it into your own success
Saransh Jain, a 17 year old FIFA eSports Professional from Pune, broke into the scene when he won the first GamingMonk Championship Series in Pune. He immediately became a known figure in the FIFA scene, if you haven’t heard his name yet, you probably haven’t faced him or seen him play, we personally did & it didn’t end well (3-0)
He’s looked upon as one of the most talented players the country has to offer. After dominating the offline scene he immediately stepped into the online realm & made his mark there as well, bagging more than 60,000 INR over a period of 3 months (Both online & offline) & consistently topping the monthly leaderboards. Easier said than done!
Let’s take a closer look into his journey.
Q.1)Let’s begin with your introduction. Tell us a bit about yourself? A.1) “My name is Saransh Jain, I am 17 years old and I belong to Pune. I started playing FIFA Tournaments on the portal in December 2017.”
Q.2)Alright, so Saransh can you describe your overall experience playing the tournaments at the portal over these months?
A.2) “It’s been an amazing journey so far. I have had a really good experience playing against some of the top eSports players in the country, each having a unique style of play, I started with a free trial on the portal, my first tournament being a 1v1 Silver Series. I didn’t have enough confidence back then to actually go out and win it, but I somehow managed to. One thing led to another and I eventually finished third in the December leader board. The very fact that some of the best players compete on this portal and I bagged the 3rd position amongst them gave me a motivation boost. Despite the fact that I lacked enough experience since I had just started and most of my competitors were regular players and had years of experience, I decided to grind it out and aimed to become the best! I started playing all the tournaments, Bronze Series, Silver Series, FUT. All these really helped me in becoming better and better with every passing day and eventually making me the eSports player I am.”
Q.3 Well that was truly one hell of a journey, apart from money you’re also earning bragging rights from these tournaments, what would you like to say about that?
A.3) “I never began with the intention of earning money. I started because I’ve always loved to compete in gaming tournamen
ts. The cash prizes which I received was just an icing on the cake & makes me keep at it. Recognition is something every eSports player hopes for, so it’s always a plus”
Q.4)What are your opinions on the current situation of eSports industry in India?
A.4) “People in India don’t realise the importance of eSports, its potential is really undervalued at the moment and I think it will take few more years for it to reach its peak, but if you’re a good player and can back yourself up, there’s a lot of potential to be uncovered along with growth in the field .”
Q.5)What is your parents’ viewpoint on your participation in these tournaments?
A.5) “I’m lucky that my parents are very supportive. When they saw me winning tournaments, their faith in me and their support increased a lot, they support this hobby of mine which is now my passion, they take it in a very positive way, breaking the myth centred around eSports or Gaming in general”
Q.6)Alright. So before we end this, do you have any message for your fellow eSports players?
A.6) “I would like to advise them to start now, if they believe that they have the potential a when it comes to gaming! I recommend everyone to gain experience playing on the portal and who knows, they can soon become the best! It’s time for the young people to come out and shimmer, a lot of new faces are coming up & with the infrastructure which GamingMonk is actively trying to bring for our players, the dream isn’t too far”
