Government’s Response To PUBG Ban

After the ban implemented by the government on 118 Chinese apps including PUBG Mobile there seemed to be no comment made by the authorities about the ban’s removal, till now that is.

According to a report from Inside Sport, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) is in no hurry to revoke the ban on PUBG or any other banned Chinese app. The situation has not changed much specifically for PUBG or any other app on the banned list.

According to ministry officials, “There is no discussion within the ministry officially to revoke the ban on any of the apps listed in the ban list. We will stay away from making any comment on any specific company or app”.

NO REPRESENTATION FROM PUBG CORPORATION

Despite PUBG Corp previously stating that they will reach out to the government to find a solution, there has been no representation to date by PUBG Corp or any other related company official to the ministry for unbanning the game in India.

The ministry official further explained that the mere announcement from PUBG Corporation to sever ties with Tencent Games in India is not enough for the ban to be revoked. Let alone PUBG, It seems there have been no discussions initiated in regard to revoking the ban on any of the Chinese companies.

PUBG Mobile And Reliance Jio Potential Partnership

After PUBG was banned it was quite apparent that if the game was to make its way back in India it would need the help of an Indian company. Previously, it was reported that PUBG Corporation was looking for Indian partners to publish and distribute the game in India.

According to several reports, Reliance Jio is in talks with PUBG Corporation and can take over the PUBG License to operate in India. It would make sense if this turned out to be true as the RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani himself has showcased his interest in the gaming market with Reliance also investing heavily in the industry.

The PUBG Corporation is reportedly in talks with Reliance Industries Ltd’s (RIL) telecom arm to win it over as a potential publisher and distributor in the country. The reports also mention that the discussions were in an “advanced stage” with the two companies negotiating revenue sharing and plans for localization.

INDIAN PARTNERS

Having an Indian partner will not only help PUBG enter the Indian gaming market once more but might also help repair its brand image in India. But there are only a few companies who are capable of handling a game as big as PUBG in India.

However, since the talks aren’t final yet, no official statement that has been given out by either PUBG or Reliance Jio.

PUBG Developers Looking For Indian Partners?

After the recent ban on PUBG Mobile, the developers have cut ties with Chinese publisher Tencent and according to multiple reports are now looking for an Indian partner to revive the game.

According to a report by Mint, PUBG is working on a new licensing agreement with an Indian gaming firm to pass on the rights to run the PUBG Mobile game in India. PUBG Corporation will now retain the publishing rights for the game, with the Indian partner handling the distribution. However, with no official confirmation, this information should be taken with a grain of salt.

“Ownership is only one of the concerns. But there are several other issues, based on which the ban has been ordered. The concerns are related to data privacy security, activity inside the phone, etc.,” a senior government official told Mint.

The game also became a beacon for the anti-Chinese movement in India, resulting in bad PR and damage to the PUBG brand. The sentiment over this situation is divided right now between fans of the game and worried parents.

POTENTIAL PARTNERS

Having an Indian partner will not only help PUBG enter the Indian gaming market once more but might also help repair its brand image in India. But there are only a few companies who are capable of handling a game as big as PUBG in India.

RELIANCE JIO

There are also reports that suggest Reliance Jio is in discussion with PUBG Corporation and can take over the PUBG License to operate in India. It would make sense if this turned out to be true as the RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani himself has showcased his interest in the gaming market with Reliance also investing heavily in the industry.

PAYTM

Despite various rumors, it seems very unlikely that Paytm will go forth with this partnership considering they already have a partnership with Free Fire, a competitor for PUBG.

NAZARA TECHNOLOGIES

Navara is another company based in Mumbai which is quite capable of publishing the game for India and according to sources, they also seem to be interested in exploring a licensing relationship with PUBG.

PUBG Developers Cut Ties With Tencent

It was just recently that the Indian government banned PUBG Mobile along with 117 other Chinese apps. After that fans of the game were left wondering about the future of the mobile game in India. However, we finally have some good news as PUBG Corporation has made the decision to no longer authorize the PUBG Mobile to be published by Tencent Games in India.

This information was released through a blog post by the company in which they stated that, “Moving forward, PUBG Corporation will take on all publishing responsibilities within the country.” They further added, “As the company explores ways to provide its own PUBG experience for India in the near future, it is committed to doing so by sustaining a localized and healthy gameplay environment for its fans.”

PUBG MOBILE is the mobile version of PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG), an intellectual property owned and developed by PUBG Corporation, a South Korean gaming company. The company is actively engaged in developing and publishing PUBG on multiple platforms, including PUBG MOBILE in select territories, to provide the best player experiences possible.”

They ended the statement by saying that, “PUBG Corporation is committed to providing its unique battle royale experience to a global audience and hopes to continue engaging with its passionate player base in India. In addition to regular content updates, the company is exploring different ways to engage its community in India through various region-based activities, including esports and community events.”

The PC version of the game is published by the developer themselves and it was only for the sake of publishing the Mobile version that PUBG Corporation relied on Tencent Games. It is likely that we will see the game come back to us as the developer hopes to work hand-in-hand with the Indian government to find a solution that will allow gamers to once again drop into the battlegrounds while being fully compliant with Indian laws and regulations.

PUBG Mobile Ban: Everything You Need To Know

By now most of you must have heard about this unfortunate development, that PUBG Mobile has been banned in India. After a month of rumors surrounding its ban due to privacy concerns the Indian government has finally announced a ban on 118 Chinese apps including PUBG Mobile.

According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, “PUBG Mobile has been banned under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, on grounds that they are engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order.”

REASON FOR THE BAN

PUBG Mobile is developed by PUBG corporation(formerly Bluehole) which is based in South Korea but unlike its PC counterpart it is published by Tencent Games.

Tencent is a Chinese tech conglomerate which has a 10% stake in PUBG Corporation and is also suspected of sharing user data with the Chinese government. The reason for this ban is seemingly due to the risk of Indian user data being used by the Chinese government through companies such as Tencent.

It is ironic that the game itself was about to be banned in China back in 2017 due to its violent and graphic nature. However, an alternative version was released under the name “Fight for peace” which was state approved.

POLICY UPDATE AND INDIAN SERVERS

Although it was just a month ago that PUBG Mobile had updated its privacy policy for India and clarified how they utilize the user data to provide services. They even mentioned that the data provided by Indian users is now being stored in servers located in India.

Compared to users in other countries whose data is still being stored in Chinese servers, Indian users still had the extra layer of protection in terms of third parties accessing user info. All of this was done to protect the game from getting banned in India but that was all for nothing.

ALTERNATIVES TO PUBG MOBILE

Players are now looking towards alternative games such as COD Mobile, Free Fire, and Fortnite to fill up that void left by PUBG. The clear outlier here is definitely COD Mobile. However, it seems that too is published by Tencent.

EFFECT ON GAMING IN INDIA

The game has had a huge impact in India in a sense that it became a cultural phenomenon. PUBG had more than 175 million game installation in India with around 25% of all of the game’s global player-base coming from here. It not only popularized gaming in India but also provided benefit to many industries, especially entertainment and mobile industry.

POSSIBILITY OF AN UN-BAN

Previously, Pakistan too placed a similar ban on PUBG Mobile which was later lifted on July 26. After a public outcry on the internet, the country’s government officials had a meeting with game representatives in which they decided to reverse that order. According to Pakistan government officials, the reason for the ban was due to long term psychological effects.

A similar situation is possible in the case of India but the quickest solution would be for Tencent to cut ties with the game completely. However, that too seems unlikely considering how the game is a cash cow for the company.

PUBG Mobile Banned, Is COD Mobile Next?

By now you might have heard about the ban on PUBG Mobile by the Indian Government. This is part of a larger Digital strike on 118 Chinese apps that are being banned in India.

Players are now looking towards alternative games such as COD Mobile, Free Fire, and Fortnite to fill up that void left by PUBG. The clear outlier here is definitely COD Mobile. However, it seems that too is developed by Tencent.

ACTIVISION CUT TIES WITH TENCENT

Call of Duty is one of the most successful video game series in the world with each game being published by Activision, an american video game company. Activision hired TiMi Studios, a subsidiary of the Chinese conglomerate, Tencent Holdings to lead the development of its mobile title. The game was later published by Activision and Tencent with only a small portion of the revenue going to the latter.

However, just a month ago Activision has cut ties with Tencent due to Trump’s orders that restricts companies operating in the US to conduct any transactions with Chinese companies.

CONCLUSION

The situation surrounding the game and its possible ban is still uncertain as the game series “Call of Duty” still belongs to Activision but it is developed by TiMi Studios, a Chinese company which is part of Tencent itself. However, the situation seems more hopeful now that Tencent is out of the picture.

PUBG Mobile: Erangel 2.0 Map Launching on September 8

PUBG Mobile is set to release their next big update version 1.0 which will bring with it lots of new changes and improvements for the game’s graphics, gameplay, UI, and more . Part of this revamp is the new Erangel 2.0 map which will finally make its way to the mobile version of the game on September 8, 2020.

Erangel is the one and only original map which started this Battle Royale and even today is the most popular one in the game. So let’s take a look at what new changes are coming with Erangel 2.0.

Loot Changes

This update will also make the loot system more balanced as players can expect richer loot in rural areas. After this change players won’t be forced to drop into popular loot locations to grab good gear, making this a more balanced experience with different strategies.

Graphical Revamp

A complete graphical revamp is also coming with this update which will include better lighting system, improved model and texture quality, better shading and water textures. However, the most notable changes are the Ultra HD and 90 FPS options if your device can handle it.

New Additions

The update will add new elements such as forgotten trenches, tree-trunk barriers, abandoned tanks and bunkers for players to explore, loot and fight.

Multiple buildings and shelters around New Erangel have been altered and improved. Some of the buildings will even have basements for layers to grab some additional loot.

There’s also a complete visual overhaul in line for some of the hottest locations in the map such as Sosnovka Military Base, Mylta Power, Mansion, Quarry Prison, Mine Zone and more. In addition to this, Georgopol is also getting seven new warehouses.

PUBG Mobile: Best Guns To Use

Pubg Mobile gives players over 40 weapons to choose from but not all weapons were made equal. Some guns perform better than the others and may give players tactical advantage based on what kind of weapon they are.

The majority of players prefer either assault rifles or snipers but there are also many others which can also do the job for you.

Groza

Dealing the same damage as the AKM but with a faster rate of fire, it is by far one of the most overpowered gun in the game. However, the only drawback is its 3 second reload time which can be quite a risk during a firefight. I would recommend having a backup weapon ready to use.

AWM

The deadliest sniper in PUBG Mobile, the AWM. In the right hands, it can wreak havoc on your enemies. It has the highest base damage of 105 and can easily take down an enemy with a Level 3 Helmet in a single headshot. But it’s pretty rare too, as it’s only available through the air drops.

Another issue is that the AWM uses Magnum rounds instead of regular 7.62mm ones, which are again, only found in air drops. For the attachments it has the same options as the M24: sight, muzzle, magazine and stock.

SLR

The SLR marksman rifle can be seen as a more powerful version of the SKS, dealing more damage at the expense of more recoil.  It is also more suited to ranged combat where there is ample cover and time to engage enemies.

M416

Compared to SCAR-L this assault rifle has a better fire rate and exceptional stability. Furthermore, it can even accept the most modifications of any of the assault rifles making it very powerful when fully modified.

UZI

Don’t let its low damage and high recoil confuse you as its still the best and the most common weapon players have a chance to get after jumping of the plane. It features a high fire rate capable of finishing players of at close range. However, it is recommended that you only continue to use this weapon in mid to endgame if you have fully modified it.

UMP45

The UMP45 is probably the best viable sub-machine gun for late game. it has the quite a high damage output coupled with negligible recoil when fully modified.

Kar 98

Not only is this the most common sniper rifle in the game, it also has the highest damage. It’s base damage it 79, and if you’re able to get a headshot, you can get a one-shot kill even on a level 2 helmet.

S12K

Easily the most powerful shotgun in the game, the S12K is a devastating weapon at close range. It also supports a number of assault rifle attachments, which makes it more versatile. Its high rate of fire and short reload time makes it extremely viable when taking on multiple enemies indoors.

PUBG Mobile: How To Use Custom Lobby

PUBG Mobile has recently announced their next big update, version 1.0 which brings in a lot of new features and improvements to the game but there’s one feature that has been swept under the radar since its addition.

The custom room feature allows players to create their own lobby where they can add their friends and even host some tournaments. These custom rooms allow players to set some rules for their lobby such as map selection, game modes, weapons, squad mode, solo mode, and many other interesting things.

How To Join a Custom Room

Other players can also join this lobby and play together if they know the password for the created room. A single room can hold upto 100 players making it a great place to hold tournaments.

To enter a Room, players need to go to ‘Match mode’ settings on the lobby screen, which will show you a list of available rooms, and you can select the one you want to join. You can always ask for the room ID and password from the creator.

How To Make a Custom Room

To make a custom room users need to have a Custom Room Card for which there are 2 ways to get it.

  • Users can straight up buy an advanced room card for 600 UC points.
  • Get one by leveling up their RP and Rank

Once you have the card go to the main lobby screen and tap on the ‘Customise match selection’ button. Now you will be able to see a Room tab on the bottom-left corner. Here you can create a custom room and play around with its settings such as Room Name, Match Mode (Solo, Duo, Team), Room Password, and Map Selection.
