Nintendo Announces New Joy-Con Colours; One Pair is Waluigi Inspired

Nintendo announced a new colour-schemes for the Switch joy-cons after the announcement of the updated Nintendo Switch console.

These new Joycons are Blue/Neon Yellow and Purple/Neon Orange. The Blue and Yellow design is said to be inspired from Buck Bumble, a character from a Nintendo 64 with the same name.

The Purple and Neon Orange one is said to be inspired from the Gamecube but we feel it’s super inspired by Waluigi and maybe Wario. Waluigi’s main colour is Purple but the colour of his shoes are the same as the Neon Orange found here.

There’s no news on whether or not these are updated Joycons since a lot of people are complaining of Joycon drift. One hopes that these issues are fixed considering that these new colours launch on October 4th for $79.99.

The Nintendo Switch Gets a Hardware Update, Better Battery Life

The Nintendo Switch is getting an under the hood upgrade that helps it get better battery life for the same price and it’s coming very soon.

The updated Nintendo Switch features the new Mariko SoC which is also present in the Nintendo Switch Lite. This upgrade helps vastly improve battery life over the older version.

As reported by Nintendo themselves, the upgraded Switch has a battery life 4.5-9 hours as compared to the older 2.5-6.5 hours. For Breath of the Wild, on the old model, it would last for about 3 hours while the new model will last for a whopping 5.5 hours. This is almost as much as the normal battery life of the older model.

While this isn’t the “Pro” model that’s been rumoured for a while now, it’s still a great upgrade to the Switch that too with no changes to the price. This new  HAC-0019(-01) model will hit the shelves in August.

Mortal Kombat 11 Runs At 60 FPS On Switch, No Footage Or Screenshots Available Yet

Mortal Kombat 11 is almost here, with the Online Beta closing last weekend and the final release coming up in a few weeks. The game is coming to PC, PS4, Xbox One & the Switch.

However, there has been no footage or screenshots being shown of the Switch version yet. Some folks got their hands on the Switch version at PAX and said that the game was running fairly smooth at 60 FPS, and looked alright as well. They were not allowed to take any videos of the game running on the Switch, which has raised some eyebrows.

In an interview with Game Informer, Ed Boom said that the Switch version of MK 11 is running at 60 FPS and is looking great. There are no blurry backgrounds and it sounds like the NetherRealms team is trying to do right by the platform.

Never forget:

An Upgraded Nintendo Switch Is Coming in 2019

According to a Wall Street Journal report, Nintendo is planning on releasing a new, upgraded version of the Switch this year.

This information comes to WSJ thanks to suppliers and other insiders with direct knowledge of the plan for an upgraded Switch. Almost every console this generation has had a revised, upgraded model during its life cycle and Nintendo want to keep the momentum going for the Switch and increase its life cycle.

Courtesy: Kotaku Australia

As of October 2018, when the original report came out, Nintendo was not sure as to what Hardware or Software features to include in this new version of the Switch. They were aiming to change the display from the current end lower-end LCD display to a newer display that would help make the screen brighter, the Switch thinner and make it all around more efficient to increase battery life. According to the report, the Switch will not be adopting OLED panels like those found in the iPhone X series flagship phones.

As to the release of this new model, it seems to be sometime around Q3 or Q4 with a slim chance of it coming as soon as Q2 which is summer. Nintendo wants to sell 20 million units of the Switch in the 2018-2019 Fiscal year which ends on 31st March 2019. They had already sold 19.7 million units since the introduction in March 2017 up until June 30th 2018.

The release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in December will further help them achieve the goal of selling those console units and if the leaks about Switch Online getting more console emulations is true, then that will also help.

What would you like to see in an upgraded version of the Switch? Let us know your thoughts below.

Nintendo Switch Online: SNES and Other Consoles Coming Soon?

Nintendo’s online paid platform Nintendo Switch Online might be getting a bunch of SNES titles added sometime soon according to what’s been datamined.

Nintendo Switch Online launched last year and was pretty lacklustre but they’ve been slowly making it more robust and worth the money. The Nintendo Switch currently has an NES app that allows you to play select NES titles with more being added over time.

Dataminers looked into the contents of the current NES switch app and found references to 22 SNES titles. The titles are as follows:

  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Soccer
  • Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past
  • Demon’s Crest
  • Yoshi’s Island
  • Stunt Race FX
  • Kirby’s Dream Course
  • Pop’n Twinbee
  • Star Fox
  • Contra 3
  • Kirby Super Star
  • Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
  • Kirby’s Dream Land 3
  • Super Metroid
  • Super Mario World
  • Pilotwings
  • F-ZERO
  • Star Fox 2
  • Super Punch-Out!!
  • The Legend of the Mystical Ninja
  • Super Mario All-Stars
  • Breath of Fire 2

A lot of these are very famous titles from that console and it’s quite a wide selection of games. There’s been no official announcement from Nintendo about SNES titles coming to the Switch so this could very well be on its way very soon.

Another interesting thing that these dataminers found was reference to 4 emulators in the NES Switch app. These upcoming consoles could be the Nintendo64, the Gamecube and the GameBoy or the GameBoy Advanced. Switch users have wanted this for a while and if Nintendo delivers this to them, it would make paying for Online totally worth it.
